Oregon freshman miler Dyrol Burleson and Kansas University hurdler Charlie Tidwell raced to sensational record-breaking victories in the rain-dampehed National AAU Track and Field Championships. Burleson, unmindful of the mile-high altitude or the soggy cinders, beat his senior teammate Jim Grelle, the NCAA mile champion, in the race, 120 yards short of a mile. Burlesoin's time of 3 minutes, 47.5 seconds cracked the AAU mark of 3:47.9 se In 1940 by Wisconsin miler Walter Mehl.

In other action, Peter Pini of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Tigers turned in the "play of the year" Friday as his teammates beat Elk Yankees maintained their American Little League lead. The Native Sons Red Sox. first Three yacht races will be featured as part of the annual Miss California pageant next Saturday at the main beach in Santa Cruz. The races will start off the Municipal wharf and will drag for five miles. The entire show can be seen from the beach. Starting time for the event will be 3:15, the race is Tidwell, NCAA 100 yard dash champion, blazed to a United States record In the ZOO meters low hurdles.

This will be the final leg of the torch's spectacular round-the-world journey from Greece that will Include a helicopter lift to the top of the mountains surrounding Squaw Valley. Bonnie Anqell Wins Golf Honor Mrs. Bonnie Angell fired a 71 to win the 18 hole tourney at the Peninsula golf course recently. Mrs. Angell was followed by Mrs. Biff Herbert who carded a 78.

Others who placed were Mrs. Kathleen Pinckney and Mrs. Tres-sie Riley. In the sweepstakes Mrs. Hattie Gustavson and Mrs.

Maryon Costella tied for first with 71's. Miss Jeannie Leighton placed second with a 76 net score. Von Saltza Wins Swimming Races Santa Clara Chris Von Saltza of Santa Clara Youth Village Saturday won the 200 yard backstroke and 299 yard individual medley in the California Age Group Swimming Meet. Her times were 2:24.7 and 2:26.1 respectively. Steve Skold of Santa Clara YV won the men's 100 yard butterfly in 55.9 and Ted Stickles of San Mateo the 200 individual medley in 2:08.8.

In the third inning the Giants scored three runs without a hit to narrow the gap to 7-3, and then In the sixth scored three more times to tie the game at 8-8 and send it Into extra innings. The Orioles scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth and then John Pierce, the birds' ace mound-man closed the door on the Giants in the bottom of that frame for the victory. Pierce hit the fly that brought Curt Austin home with the winning run, a line drive that was caught by second baseman John Bradley in center field. The Merchants blew a 4-0 lead. With two outs and two strikes on Mel Morris, the Watsonville first baseman bounced a single over Don Sweets' head in the bottom of the eighth to provide Ber-man's with the winning margin. Camp Evers plays again tomorrow night against an undetermined opponent and if they win, they will meet the Santa Cruz Mer chants at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Pony Grads Dennis Cody got every one of his 200 plus pounds behind a George Cozad fast ball and belted it out of sight over the left field wall at Harvey West Stadium, in a County Bank Tigers' 5-0 victory over the SLV Yankees Friday night. Cody's blow came with no one on in the sixth inning and had very little to do with the outcome of the game that was decided in the Tiger's three run third. Fleck Drops Out Of Canadian Open Montreal UP. Jack Fleck, Los Angeles pro and 1955 U.S. Open champion, pulled out of the Canadian Open Golf Championship Saturday in a huff because he wasn't allowed to park where he had been accustomed to leaving his car.
