Other projects include murals on the Dewey Bridge Store and one started, but not completed, on an abandoned building in Cisco, Utah. Although his latest project will undoubtedly bring his art more out in the open, Bizer has tried a little bit of everything if it has to do with art. Ive painted cars and lettered trucks too.

The majority of his work is still smaller paintings, with western themes dominating his work. Ive been interested in art almost my entire life, Bizer said. My folks encouraged me when I was a kid, and took one correspondence course during high school that took three years to complete. He has three years of art instruction from Western State College, and has taken some classes from Mesa College. Although Bizer would just as soon spend his time in front of a canvas, or blank wall, his art career remains a part-time occupation.

Until hes able to support himself, hell continue to take on jobs as they come along, whatever size or scale. When he was finished with the Smoke Pit mural, the Bowers liked it so much they commissioned him to do another painting, this time a portrait, in another rather unusual place. With tongue firmly implanted in the side of his cheek, Lucky said the next Bizer work will be a replica of another famous western painting; it will be called The face on the barbeque room floor. Instead of small tubes of paint, Bizers larger-than-life painting of a shootout between two cowboys arguing in Escalante Canyon required him to buy pints and quarts. picked it to bring a little more of a local flavor to their restaurant, which already features an armadillo sitting on a car, parked in front of the building.

Just because Texans make good barbecue doesnt mean we should promote just Texan things, said Lucky. After nearly two years of business, the Smoke Pit owners believe they have reached their goals of serving good barbeque in a homey atmosphere. With a homemade, brick, above-ground pit barbeque, their food is authenticWith the addition of Bizers art, the ambiance, they believe, is authentic, too. White Buffalo Bizers trade name, was picked for the large project because of his previous work in Grand Junction, most notably the 18-foot bluish-green gorilla holding a pickle on one wall of Rocky Mountain High Auto Sales at 261 North Ave. They wanted kind of a landmark for the business, said Bizer of his King Kong-like creature.

His biggest mural is a painting of the Grand Valley done as the backdrop for a billboard advertisement for a local hostelery, seen by motorists Courtney DoBruIn Daily Sentinel Ordinarily, when Gary Bizer calls it quits, for the day, he can walk away from his painting and not worry about the weather. Such was not the situation when Bizer, an oil field worker when he cant find work for his brushes, was commissioned to decorate the west wall of the Smoke Pit Texas Bar-B-Que, 2302 U.S. west of Grand Junction. With one eye toward the sky, Bizer, 37, finally completed the mural in late August, despite rainstorms and the month's unusually wet weather. First I had to prepare the wall with one solid coat of paint, then the rains came, Bizer said of the project begun in early August.

From then on, I had to paint between cloudbursts. Instead of small tubes of paint, Bizers larger-than-life painting of a shootout between two cowboys arguing in Escalante Canyon required him to buy pints and quarts. He also had to keep things pretty basic for the mural, which is 12 feet high by nearly 25 feet long. Painting larger than life has its peculiarities, too. Its harder because you have to continually step off the ladder and get back to see what youve done, said Bizer.

Late payment of sales taxes has become commonplace as merchants struggle with cash-flow problems and Tasker looks for payment of delinquent accounts to make up perhaps five percent of the July deficit.

The first two months showed slight increases, then there were two months with decreases. At that point, the budget was revised downward to $5.2 million.

Belting out many of her favorites, including Higher and Higher, and "Superstar," and a few of her newer songs, namely Take Me Home and Hit Me On The Love-side, Coolidge was in command of the laid-back audience during her entire hour-long set in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Junction Hilton. Composed primarily of people in their 30s, the fans, as did Coolidge, took a while to warm to one another. By the time the daughter of a Baptist minister was into the sec-ond portion of the first of two shows, however, the crowd was clapping along with the six-piece band. Delays in setting up equipment left an impatient gathering of approximately 500 waiting inside the hotels entryways before doors opened at 7:35 p.m.

Opening act John Bayley had people thoroughly enjoying themselves by the time he left the stage at 8:25. When Coolidge was introduced at 8:55, the audience had settled down and needed the spunky Hit Me On The Loveside from her current album, Inside The Fire, to crank up again. She opened with Your Love and followed Hit Me with one of her most popular tunes, "Superstar." The next three songs were up tempo, before Coolidge slowed it down with two bluesy numbers. Black Coffee gave Coolidge, dressed in black blouse and black leather parachute-type pants with a heavy silver belt looped twice around her narrow waist, a chance to sing from within. Her rendition of Fever got things jumping and brought much of the audience into its highest state of celebration.

For the next 10 minutes and three songs, it was high energy as each band member had a solo, ending with the closing song "Heartbreak Radio," the title track from her 1981 album by the same name. Coolidges singing was crisp and clear, at least for those seated near the front, and the sound, refreshingly, did not knock you into your back-door neighbors lap. Wanted to Buy!
