W) Four men were still missing Saturday as investigators probed charred wreck aged of the Jennings Terrace Home for the Aged in the wake of a fire Friday. Five residents of the home and a fireman injured in the blaze re-maincd in a hospital. Eighty-eight survivors, most of them women, settled temporarily in an old VMCA building. Dr.

Allan Filek, regional state health officer, disclosed that the home had been denied a state li-cense to provide convalescent nursing care in 1958 and 1059 because of fire hazards. When the fire broke out, workmen were in the 101-year-old building installing a $17,000 fire sprinkler system. Authorities are convinced the missing men died in the building. Czechoslovakia security police called a news conference and introduced two women Saturday who said they were sent here to spy for the United Staffs. The women Identified themselves as Ludmilla Vogel and Cora Strauch and said they were West Germans. They were brought before a group of sports writers here covering the ice hockey world championships. Both women said they were instructed by the American counterintelligence corns in Munich to come to Czechoslovakia on the pretext of watching the matches of the West German ice hockey team. They said they were told to spy on military installations and were promised unspecified sums for their information on their return.

Plaistow Selectmen Charles II. Goodwin. William C. Bramley and Leroy S. Dube had worked together as a team the past year, and ttiey liked it.

Dube was up for re-election but didn't quite make it. So his pals Goodwin and Bramley resigned in sympathy. Frank Leathe, who defeated Dube by three votes, is in much the same position as Miss Donna Niles who was elected as selectman in the town of Wilmot. When she was chosen the first woman selectman in Wilmot's history, two male selectman promptly quit. Nothing against Miss Niles personally, they said, they just didn't care about work ing with a woman.

State law provides that a vacancy on the board of selectmen may be filled by someone chosen by the other two selectmen. But when there is only one selectman and two vacancies what to do? The crash occurred on U. S. Highway 40, a mile south of Fairfield, which is about 15 miles northeast of Vallejo. Both vehicles were southbound, the bus from Portland, Ore. It carried 37 adults and 4 children.

The highway patrol said witnesses reported a rear tire on the trailer-truck, carrying plywood, blew out. The bus then crashed into the truck. The front of the bus was smashed but the driver, William C. Meadows, 55, of Anderson, escaped injury, as did the truck driver, Harlan W. Cousey, 60, of Paso Robles, Calif.
