There was even a squaw with a papoose tened to her back who led some sheep off the road so we could get by. Finally, there we were! At the Four Comers area! It was a forlorn, dry and rocky spot. In the center there was a larger rock, sort of like a rough cornerstone.

Small stones were arranged in lines to indicate the different states. My husband built a small campfire, not far away, where we cooked our lunch. We set up the folding camp table across the Utah and Colorado line. His chair, was in Arizona and mine in New Mexico. Thus, a long dreamed-about ambition was accomplished.

This first trip was taken in the early 1940s, since then a government highway passes through. Also, there is a large concrete platform centered by a monument. Picnic tables have been built in the corner of each state. By INEZ S. WILSON 1A7 hile a little girl living in a large city in the middle states, my fourth grade teacher introduced us to geography.

One of the things she taught was that there are four states in the Union that touch each other. She said, "One can stand with one foot in each of two states with a hand in each of the other two." That meant that one could be in four states at the same time. I hoped and dreamed that someday I could do that very thing. When a freshman in high school I wanted to move to the West. Our family moved out here into Western Colorado.

After finishing high school and two years college, I taught school several years, then married, Finally, we were able to take a few vacation trips. One of the very first was a tour which included the Four Comers area. We traveled winding roads through adobe hills. The only Do you remember? Do you have an old photo you'd like to share?
