Advertiser, Lafayette, Oct. 25, 1969 USL Ragin Cajuns On Road (Again!) To Meet Cards tend to exert every possible effort in filling "The Sabine Shoe" at a proper size Saturday night in Beaumont. Just one more hundred -mile trip, then USL fans can start humming the tune of: "The Green, Green Grass of Allons a Beaumont! USL LAMAR TECH 1952 Football Results 1948 Year Game score (site of gaaw) La. College by a close 9 3 count in Hammond. Three other foreign trips resulted in losses to North Texas State.

Louisiana Tech, and Arkansas State, of which the latter two hold a high national ranking. Cajuns Stumbled In their only Lafayette appearance on Sept. 24 (seems more like a year ago than just one month), the Cajuns stumbled before East Texas State 24 13. To complicate matters. Faulkinberry and his staff had the misfortune of having to count almost as many casualties among regular veterans as General LTlysses Grant did a few years before Rutgers and Princeton started this game of football in 1869.

It was a difficult task trying to fit football shoes 100 years ago. but Faulkinberry and his Ragin' Cajuns in A bronzed football shoe, size 13 and mounted on a big wooden base, naturally at first looks quite worthless, maybe crazy, and certainly anything but significant. This unique gold colored shoe that might fit Paul Bunyan's foot has almost as much sentimental value as pure gold when football teams from Lamar Tech and the University of Southwestern Louisiana compare strategy each fall season. Coveted ownership of "Le Sabine Sabot" will once again be at stake Saturday night when the USL Ragin' Cajuns invade Beamont, Texas, to test the resurging Lamar Tech Cardinals. Sabine Shoe "The Sabine Shoe" award symbolizes annual supremacy in this fierce interstate feud that first began in 1952 and presently stands at five victories apiece.

Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour. Final Year Starting with the first Saturday of next month, the Cajunmen finish their final year on McNaspy's gr idiron by hosting Northeast La. State. Nov. St.

22. Kickoff time for each of these four home games will be at 7:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time), provided there is no further depletion allowance from Congress. For the 1970 football race. Southwestern is to play all home contests here in a spacious new $3 million, 26.500 seat stadium which is now being constructed near the intersection of Congress Street and Bertrand Drive.

Speaking of that vicious '69 road assignment, the Cajuns have thus far mastered only GSC rival Southeastern this fall after last year's (8 2) Gulf States Conference championship effort. Regardless of current records, the great intensity of this young but red hot grid feud promises plenty of explosive action for 60 full minutes in Beaumont shortly following Saturday's sunset the last, incidentally, for Daylight Standard Time in '69. While ending these Daylight Saving hours, USL gridmen also hope for brighter days by winding up a most demanding schedule here next month with four straight games on the more friendly McNaspy Stadium turf in Lafayette. Including Saturday's fifth and final jaunt over to Beaumont, Southwesterners will have tackled five of their first six foes in 1969 on the read including the last four in a row. Mayhe the Cajuns need just one more to match hose renowned travels of Bing Although the hot rivalry started 17 years ago between these big enemies, who are separated, state -wise, by the Sabine River, it was 1968 when USL's chapter of Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity initiated this prized ''Sabine Shoe" honor.

Fortunately for USL, the Ragin' Cajuns of coach Russ Faulkinberry were the first team to fit this right footed shoe, trimming the Teehmen in a 20 14 thriller here at Lafayette's McNas-py Stadium last year. Come Saturday night in Beaumont, possession for 1969 70 promises to he another all out struggle once the first kickoff gets booted downfield at 7:30 p.m. Has 3 2 Mark Lamar Tech (3 2) is staging a most impressive comeback from the winless (0 10) campaign last year, while Southwestern (1 4) seeks a strong comeback 1968 USL 20, Lamar Tech 14 (Lafayette). 1967 Lamar Tech 14.
