George Simmons, park board president, said Friday afternoon Simmons said be and the park board knew nothing about plana for the new North American Softball league, unveiled Tuesday at a Chicago press conference, or plans lor the Chicago team to play home games in Harvey's stadium. "I'm still in the dark about all these new arrangements." Simmons said late Friday afternoon. i won't say yes or no about any games being played here riit now." Simmons wants Fred Aprati. a Chicago Heights attorney who apparently- offered CNA the use of Lou Boudreau field, to give the park board an explanation APRATI HAS HAD a lease for several years with the park district to use the stadium tor amateur games for a south suburban Softball league. The league, a not-for-profit corporation called South Suburban Softball Association, pays the park district $1 a year for the lease.

It also maintains the stadium and has put In substantial Improvements. The corporation gets whatever profits are made from concession stands SCANNELL SAID HE thinks the professional softball league is probably a good thing for Harvey and the south suburbs, but the arrangements have to be legal. "I will do everything I can to facilitate the fames, but has to be done accordance with the law. We have to protect the ball club, the public and park district commissioners." be said. Neither Aprati nor Joe Pepitone, president of CNA, could be reached Friday for comment.

According to the calendar, three double-headers in the new league's 64 game schedule will be played here on Memorial day weekend. Simmons said be, too, wants to see the park district get Us share of any profit made, along with adequate insurance coverage. "MR. APRATI IS going to have to explain his program for this year and the news stories that appeared in the metropolitan press." Simmons said. "Up to now the park district has bad no communication, no mail from Aprati concerning this," be added. What could make the Chicago club's arrangements legal, according to Scannell, is a special permit from the park board. If the board doesn't approve a permit, he said, he will have to file an injunction to keep the games from being played here.
