Bnggs. Richard Crothers, William Jones, Irene Martin and Frank Rossano Sheepshead Bay Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, held a 2 P.M. TO 4 P.M. TOMORROW MORNING Jimmy Powers Urged to Speak Up (But Not Too Much) 'Crusade in Pacific' Praised Last Friday night's NBC-TV International Boxing Club main event was the Young Durando fight, and it was sport-cast, as usual, by Jimmy Powers. 1 do not believe that Jimmy' popularity as a fight sportcaster stems from his nasal twang, any more than I am convinced1 that he possesses a greater amount of ring savvy and lore than any of his contemporaries.

However, he always seems to have enough facts and figures at hand to heighten interest in the fight, and although his critics can mention certain things in his disfavor they can't accuse him of being garrulous. The one thing that I find most desirable in any fight sportcaster is a definite stinginess with words. It was Jimmy's reluctance to utter a lot of foolish nonsense during the rounds which made me one of his fans, and as long aa he prefers to telecast in this manner he is assured of at least one listener. As rare and as needed as slightly tongue-tied fight tele-rasters are today, I do think dead air ran sometimes be too darn dead. I believe Jimmy was slightly remiss when he didn't tell us that Durando was cutting his man up quite badly last Friday.

Our eyes could tell us that these boys were not playing parlor games, but I did not learn until the following day that Young will be out of action until his many and deep cuts heal. Multiple cuts can be more important with regard to the outcome of a fight than knockdowns in many cases, and when cuts are evident we should be so advised. Jimmy, if the battle is a gory one, tell us. When the weak sisters faint, we'll place them in a convenient corner. But, we want to know ALL, not some of the details, heah! CBS star Robert Q.

will trace this country's role in the Pacific area from the time of the acquisition of Oregon, California and Alaska to the present day. They will depict all phases of our naval and diplomatic activity in the Pacific from the time of Hawaii's King Kamehameha, to the present Korean War. The first chapter touched upon the highlights of history In the Pacific as recorded on film and was almost too episodic and sketchy to be comprehensible. All subsequent chapters will deal with specific events in a more detailed and understandable manner. For a fine knowledge of what the Pacific has meant to us as individuals and as a nation I heartily recommend this series.
