'Jack' Clifford February 6, 2013 John H. "Jack" Clifford, 74, of Cresswell Gardens, Ashland, died Wednesday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Pottsville, Nov. 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Clarence "Jack" and Mary Kane Clifford. He was married to Catherine C. Callaghan Clifford for 48 years. They were married on June 13, 1964, at St.

Kieran Church, Heckscherville. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a 1956 graduate of Saint Clair High School, received an associate degree in engineering from Penn State University in 1958, a bachelor's degree in biological science from Kutztown University in 1962, and a master's degree in biological science from Kutztown University in 1967, and took graduate courses at Penn State University State College. He was an adjunct professor in Science, Engineering and Technology at Penn State Schuylkill. Jack was a teacher at Frackville High School from 1962 until the formation of North Schuylkill School District.

He was the head cross country coach at North Schuylkill High School and women's cross country coach at Penn State Schuylkill. He was an avid outdoors-man, hiker, trail runner, road and mountain biker, who enjoyed long bike rides and Sunday mornings watching the sun come up at Tuscarora State Park, as well as hiking and bird watching. He was preceded in death Dorothy M. Bogish February 5, 2013 Dorothy M. Bogish, 71, of Kaska, passed away Tuesday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.

McDonald, 98, peacefully went "home" to be with her husband, Tucker, son, Michael, and grandson, Tommy, at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street on Wednesday Born in New Philadelphia, Aug. 3, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Eve Belsciutte Gzik.

Valley View Koppenhaver, Ida L. Ida L. Harner Koppenhaver February 7, 2013 Ida L. Harner Koppenhaver, 92, of 301 Straub Alley, Valley View, died Thursday at The Kepler Home, Elizabeth-ville. Born on Jan.

12, 1921, in Lykens Township, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Katie Klinger Klinger. She was a seamstress for the former Philmark Manufacturing Valley View She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Fearnot. Ida enjoyed crocheting and loved spending time with her family Her first husband, Guy R. Harner, died in 1958; her second husband, Melvin N.

Koppenhaver, died in 1997. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Harner; a son, Lester Harner; three grandsons, Timothy Shaffer, Cameron Harner and Dean Harner; two brothers, Chester Klinger and Galen Klinger. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn I. Shaffer and her husband, Mark, Blooms-burg; a son, Richard D. Harner and his wife, Dora, Wico-nisco; a stepson, Ronald Koppenhaver and his wife, Mary Tower City; a stepdaughter, Linda Shriner and her husband, Paul, Valley View; nine grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; a great-great-grandson; three step-grandchildren; five step greatgrandchildren; three sisters Melba Crothermel, Fisher-ville, Violet Rebuck, Gratz, and Eileen Leitzel, Gratz; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday from Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

He attended the former Hegins Township High School and later served in the Army's 334th Engineering Battalion during World War II. His tour of duty included Germany, France and Belgium, earning the Philippines Liberation Medal, the European Theatre Medal and two Bronze stars. He was employed as a coal miner for the former Bush Coal Tower City until his retirement. He was a member of Simp-son United Methodist Church, Citizen's Fire Company and Getty Lucas AMVETS Post 44, all of Gordon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Lucas Carl, in December 2008; a son, Willard, in 1965; sisters, Violet Lucas, Ida Leitzel, Anna Mervine and Edna Rhoades.

Surviving are daughters, Diana Troutman, Gordon, and Nora, wife of Ira Foose, Mahanoy City; sons, Joseph Helwig and his wife, Judy White House, Charles Carl Jr. and his wife, Celia, Knoxville, and Larry Helwig and his wife, Renee, Gordon; a sister, Joan, wife of Dale Kroeck, Annville; a brother, George Carl, Tower City; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. (AP) A champion bridge player considered one of the game's great theorists and nicknamed The Beast because of the intensity of his play has died in New Jersey Ira Rubin was 82. Eden Memorial Chapels says Rubin died Wednesday at a hospice in Edison. The American Contract Bridge League says Rubin earned 19 national titles and one world title as a top tournament player for more than four decades. Rubin was inducted into the league's Hall of Fame in 2000. PA 17110.
