'Jack' Clifford February 6, 2013 John H. "Jack" Clifford, 74, of Cresswell Gardens, Ashland, died Wednesday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Pottsville, Nov. 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Clarence "Jack" and Mary Kane Clifford. He was married to Catherine C. Callaghan Clifford for 48 years. They were married on June 13, 1964, at St.

Kieran Church, Heckscherville. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a 1956 graduate of Saint Clair High School, received an associate degree in engineering from Penn State University in 1958, a bachelor's degree in biological science from Kutztown University in 1962, and a master's degree in biological science from Kutztown University in 1967, and took graduate courses at Penn State University State College. He was an adjunct professor in Science, Engineering and Technology at Penn State Schuylkill. Jack was a teacher at Frackville High School from 1962 until the formation of North Schuylkill School District.

He was the head cross country coach at North Schuylkill High School and women's cross country coach at Penn State Schuylkill. He was an avid outdoors-man, hiker, trail runner, road and mountain biker, who enjoyed long bike rides and Sunday mornings watching the sun come up at Tuscarora State Park, as well as hiking and bird watching. The American Contract Bridge League says Rubin earned 19 national titles and one world title as a top tournament player for more than four decades.
