Most of these were grass or rubbish tires which throatened property. The only damage that amounted to anything was the burning of a tool house owned by William Corse, on Wood-lawn avenue. The loss is estimated at $1,000 and was not insured.

The house caught from a grass fire. Another call was to Petroleum bridge at 4:30 o'clock when some paper wag found burning on one of the iron girders. This was extinguished by use of a chemical tank. Saturday was a bad day for William Corse for while the fire was in progress which destroyed his tool house a grass fire was raging over a lease which he owns in partnership with Mr. Metz on the hill back of the Tenth Ward.
