Once when he was to go into a Winter Garden revue he decided to go Into the movies instead. That, as everybody knows, was a few years back. He has made movie history since. He was a pretty silent fellow in the movies, silent and Incredibly calm no matter what happened to him, which was a good deal in the custard pie days. In "The Gorilla" he Is fairly silent too, being the less loquacious of those famous'two detectives who were sure they could catch the murdering monster in no time but were frightened silly almost every minute.

Both are dumb. ANN NEAGLE as she appears in "Sunny which comes to RKO neighborhood theaters with a camera such as parents buy their children for Christmas and two detectives, Mulligan and Gar-l'ity. Retirement, which comes to with a dead pan, cannot remain altogether calm.

He shakes considerably. Everybody does in "The Gorilla," that famous thriller by Ralph Spence that had the town screaming back in the days when murder mysteries were knockouts, which, as a matter of fact, they still can be today, though we have gotten a little used to them. There were screams from the audience last night at the Brighton, not to mention those of Geraldlne Galtley on the stage, one of the best of screamers. She plays the pretty little niece of the troubled Cyrus Stevens, who the Brighton Theater for the week beginning July 15. Bodies appear, clutching hands stick out, gentle men disappear in smoke clouds, has been warned by Jhe gorilla, a terrifying murderer who may or may not be a genuine member of the monkey family. The gorilla left a note with his paw prints on It. He wants the house Stevens lives in with this pretty niece of his, a cute one.

Edgar Allan Poe, who in his time made a good deal of flesh creep himself, used to live In that house. Also in It are a gentleman who says he is a playwright, an old Negro servant, one of the best actors in the company; a reporter skeletons pop up. Trick doors are everywhere for injured sailors and others to fall through. It's a stirring skirmish. And It will be more so when the acton and the play get to be closer friends.

Mr. Keaton maks himself a favorite of the audience with little effort. He was never an actor who did his work the hard way. His gift is for underacting, always has been, if throwing pies was ever considered the mark of a reticent man. Belinda has rather a tough time, what with being deaf and dumb and getting into something- of a scrape because of ear and throat trouble. "Johnny" is the result, and likewise the reason for the extra heavy attendance at matinees during the last season. "Johnny Belinda" is essentially a ladies' play. To hastily review Elmer Harris' opus of the Nova Scotia waterfront, It is only necessary to recall that Belinda is the deaf-mute daughter of Black McDonald. She is the drudge of the farm, until Locky McCormlck tells her different.

"Johnny Belinda" happens along, and almost leads to tragedy. Currently, the play arrives practically intact from its original run at the Longacre. Helen Craig, of course, originated the role of Belinda. More recently, the Piatt sisters, Louise and Jean, have been alternating in the part. At the Flatbush, after last night, the former will appear on Thursday and Saturday evenings and at the Thursday and Sunday matinees.

Jean will carry on during the rest of the week. The supporting cast features Paul Huber as Belinda's harsh Scottish father and Horace McNally as the doctor.
