By the time the first half smoke cleared, Notre Dame had produced two touchdowns on Terry Hanrattys passing, another on a tricky 55-yard interception-lateral play, and two on down on a 55-yard play. The sixth Notre Dame touch-down in the first half came oo Larry Conjars two-yard smash, three plays after a Ertke punt was blocked on the Blue Devil nine.
