tho ARKANSAS CITY DAILY TRAVELER, THURSDA FEBRUARY 8, 1923 PAGE FIVE An American business man, hav. ing temporarily lost his bearings in a London fog, paused on a street corner. A newsy, seeing the gentleman's dilemma, asked if he could be of any assistance. The gentleman accepted the boy's guidance to his hotel and naturally offered the guide a substantial tip. The boy drew himself up with dignity and explained that he was a Boy Scout that Boy Scouts did not take pay for' doling their good turns.

The gentleman's interest was aroused extent that he sought out Baden Powell, the founder of scouting and chief of the British Scouts' Association, and learned what this scouting business really was. When the business man returned to America, he interested others in the scout movement. The result was that the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated 8, 1910. On June 15, 1916, congress granted the organization a special federal charter, among other things, ing the Boy Scouts of America exclusive right to the name and adaptions thereof, insignia and uniform. This good-turn idea has been installed into the lives of over three million boys and now being ticed.

by nearly 400,000 between the ages of 12 to 18 and thousands of leaders over 18. The teaching of this spirit of helpfulness to the boys of Arkansas City should be carried on for a larger number of boys. The Arkansas City council invites you to attend as many of the meetings of the organization during anniversary week as possible sO you can see the conduct of your boys under the influence of scouting and find out what you can do to help in the work of the movement. Almost Disaster Happens to Wash of Lewis Family "Dobbin' almost got away with it last night. Besides, he almost got lost, but owing to the enterprize of Mrs.

Grant Lewis, who takes no chances, he probally would have made a clean getaway, Mrs. Lewis called on her laundress to come and get the week's laundry. The laundress' daughter called at the Trimper Apartments for the bunide, which Mrs. Lewis had care fully marked with name On the way home, the daughter called at another place to get a bundle, and while in the house, Dobbin, who by the way was left standing unhitched, became energetic and walked of ran away. Besides Mrs.

Lewis' bundle there was another larger package of laundry belonging to someone more fortunate than the Lewis family in having more but it had not been marked. Tliis morning about Lewis was called on the telephone gentleman told her of finding Poundie of laundry with Mrs. Lewis' name attached, and he said horse and buggy bad been standing near his home all night and was still. there. Mrs.

Lewis immediately notified the laundress, who said she was not so anxious about the horse and wagon as about the washings. She said Dobbin would immediately be brought home and caution would be used in the future about leaving him alone without hitching. This would have been a catastrophe to part of the Lewis family, as one his shirts were in that bundle, and that one. had been spoilvery recently, consequently wishes to thank for calling Mrs. Lewis on the telephone.
