for the office of -Register of Deeds, subject tQ the will of the republican party at the August primary. Annette Webb 48-tf THE PROPOSED STRIKE The Kansas City, Journal Jn com- menting on the proposed strike, and faftef quoting the interpretation of the law by Attorney General Paugh-erty, says that "the-present situation certainly demonstrates most forcibly the necessity for sofiae law1, eith- er federal or the uniform legislation I of the states, the industrial Kansas relations act which i Will protect the public from the consequence of by protectingr men in their inalienable right to work if they wish to do Th( cnm rr on iirwvn thP strike and the industrial court apparj-I ently ia based upon hearsay evidence. and not upon facts. The Journal also errs slightly iruregard to what Attorney General Saugherty gave out. i The attorney general notified the miners and the public that no 1 i permitted in case of a fctrike.

If attorney general holds to this announcement, the strike of the coal will be of short duration, and I will not amount to a great deal. The attorney general has the authority already to protect any body of men who want to work, from the machin- iations of those who do not want tol work. The governor of the state of Kansas and other states has the jlsame authority, and if they choose I to exercise that right, the strikes Swill be much fewer and' of shorter duration than under the provisions 1 of the industrial court law. The Traveler wishes to call the Of the Journal to the fact that about all Kansas has had since the -passage of the indifctrial court Ilaw is strikes and lockouts. The iri-dustrial court law never put Howat I out of business.

This was done by President Lewis, of the miners organization. It 53 true Howat was sent to jail by the district court of Cherokee, county for refusing to obey the order of the industrial court, but a county attorney, under the prohib- ftnrtf a linn a fVi a A lvvi iiao iu iiuiu inquisitions in, liquor cases. This law is much more effective than the industrial court law, and if the people are -desirous of; a testimdny i bodylin the matter of cpntroversies, why not. give the 'county attorney of every county the same authority to hold inquisitions, in labor disputes, as is held by the industrial court? This method would' greatly reduce the expense of the court proceedings, and we believe would be much more effective and much preferred by both the employer and the employed. However, there Is but little doubt that there ig (sufficient law on the statute books of this state, to nro-tect men who want to work asjainst those who have decided to quit, and no further law is needed on the subject unless it is to satisfv a few radicals oppohed to labor.

In the ranks of labor there are ft large number of radicals whose actions are matin" of the measure. 'And we are of opinion that in the senate discussions On the subject, the people will get a view of the billr not to.be obtained frorffvthe house debates. J-t-t- CARRY OUT HIS OWN. VIEWS At the -labor meeting last night, one- of the speakers O. S.

Gibson, made the statement that the election of Captain Sinnott for mayor, and P. Ii. Thompson for public utilities commissioner, meant a con-1 tinuatio'n of the, present administration. 1 The Traveler does not believe this is correct. It1 Is.

true that Captain Sinnott is city clerk, but he is vand has been working tinder orders. He had no voice in business toatters. His duty was to keep a correct record of all transactions, and he. did so. The editor of the Traveler knows positively that the captain has not always been in harmony with; tbe policies, of the administration under which he.

is working, but, -as stated, he had no voice in the matter. The records of the city clerk will also show that Commissioner L.
