Tie probable starting back-field includes Price operating at right half and Gosnell at fullback.

Dabbs, Landry, and Toups should be regulars in the front wall. Defensively, Wheeldon replaces Gosnell to join up with Dabbs at the key linebacking posts. When Dabbs might need a rest, Buford takes over the ball-snapping duties on offense. Weber is sidelined at least two or three games while recovering from surgery. The coaches hope this field commander who led USL in total offense last year can be ready sometime in early October as his experience will undoubtedly be neded.

Dabbs, a rugged 218-pounder, was accalaimed All-Gulf States Conference last year by the league coaches. Price received this top honor the 1963 season, but in the 64 campaign the 198-pound power-runner was hampered by an injury. These seniors are among the 23 lettermen on Southwesterns 39-man varsity rooster. This roll also reveals a total of 14 juniors, eight sophomores, and new varsity candidates who took part in spring training for the first time. About two dozen freshmen round out the present roster.

This is the firm belief of Bulldog coach Russ Faulkinberry as he prepares to unveil his fiftn edition of Raging Cajun footballers.

Good leadership is an absolute must for any team, the mentor began. It can mean thte difference between winning and losing. This sason leadership will play a highly important role in determining if we want to be a winner or a loser. We have the confidence that we have the makings for some real good leaders in our group of seniors. And these seniors, we hope, will be dedicated to finishing their careers as a winner.

They all have the ability to be both good players and good leaders, and their desire and efforts this fall will set the example for the rest of the squad, he said. Canine gridders entering the stretch drive of collegiate football include: Fullback Miles Gosnell, TJew Iberia; halfback Lonny Price, Baton Rouge quarterback ONeal Weber, Lutcher; center Phil Dabbs, Bessemer, center Fred Buford, St. Martinville; guard Louis Landry, Na-poleonville; tackle A1 Toups, Houma; and inebacker Al Wheeldon, Lake Charles. All but one have been at Southwestern at least three years, Faulkinberry pointed out, so by now each should be ready for his best season yet. Toups and Weber each need one more award to become a rare four-year veteran, while Price, Wheeldon, and Landry are shooting for their third monogram.

The Reds scored their other two runs on Deron Johnson's 28th home run in the fourth, but the Mets tied the game in the eighth on three singles. I like to have Perez playing first base because he bats right-handed and (Gordy) Coleman doesnt do too well against some of the better left-handed pitchers, said Sisler. I wasn't really counting on Perez at the start of the season, but by his hitting and geeneral all-round play he quickly forced me into platooning the first base position.

Sisler also had praise for his pitching ace Sammy Ellis, who picked up his 19th victory against eight defeats by pitching to four Mets in the ninth inning. He wanted to get in thlS( game, the manager said, nod-i ding toward Ellis, who had sur-j prised observers by running out to the mound. This week there are a variety of activities being planned for CYO participants. Touch football teams are being organized for the coming season. There will be games played every week with finalists going to the state playoffs at the end of the season.

Anyone interested in joining or organizing a team may get further information by getting in touch with Father Brennan at the Fatima Rectory or with Charlie Lenox.
