THE LANGLEY ADVANCE, Jan. 4, 1978. More about CFVRD (Continued from front page) "The trouble with this province is that nobody has any concern about time at all. It is time somebody started to buck the system. This: brought on a shouting match between Ald.

Blair and Ald. Lindsay involving their personal attributes and ending with Ald. Blair shouting. "Why don't you resign from the Resign, resign, resign, You have no confidence in RD." And Ald. Lindsay was shouting, back: won't resign, I don't have to resign.

After Acting Mayor Art Brooks brought tranquility back to the council chambers and a resolution was drafted which made no reference to over -riding the RD, Ald. Brooks commented: "I can't see the provincial government bypassing RD. It is a child of the provincial govern: ment as much as this council and all other councils are. It will be up to a majority vote of the RD. That is the way it will be and you can knock your head against a brick wall to try to change Final word was had by Ald.

Blair when he explained: "'This is a critical time. We are so close in the RD to coming up with something. However, at the end of January if it appears that RD is too slow, I'll be the first to say let's sink the ship right now." Artist died on trip at Spuzzum A Langley resident for the past twenty five years died suddenly in Spuzzum on New Year's Day, January 1st, 1978. Carle. Hessay, late of 20355 Fraser Highway, Langley a City, was born in Shanghai, China, and travelled the world widely while employed as a commercial fisherman.

He studied for four years at the Academy of the Arts in Dresden, East Germany, and at the Academy of the Arts in Paris. Last Spring, Hessay, then 65 years of age, had his first showing with the Langley Arts Council. His pictures were one of the first to be commissioned by the LAC's Picture Loan Gallery. Hessay, who began painting at the age of fourteen, saw action in the Spanish Civil War. His father was a linguists master at Oxford.

Hessay worked through art school by taking jobs and winning scholarships. His other love was music, because the cost of piano lessons were high, he taught himself and played only to an audience made up of his closest friends. His work, however, was prospecting, and music and painting were merely his hobbies, he said. Funeral services for Carle Hessay will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan.

Goodbrand expands its Grove area Permission to amend a Land Use Contract to allow extension of a storage yard at the Goodbrand Industries Ltd. site near Aldergrove was granted by Langley municipal council on Monday afternoon after public hearing on the proposal.

Nobody appeared at the public hearing and the company's request was explained to council by municipal planning department member Stan Van Meer. He pointed out that property owners in the area had been advised of the extension proposal and no objections had been received. About three acres are involved between 32nd Fraser Highway, and 262nd St. where Goodbrand Construction has recently erected a major head office and storage building. Adjoining land is also slated for industrial storage development by Goodbrand Construction, council was told by Mr.

Van Meer. Extension of the area covered by the LUC will increase the impost fees being paid by Goodbrand by $6,280, based on an acreage formula. You go partly where you want to go, and partly where the darned things take you. One good thing about multiple TV commercials- without them, a lot of kids would never get their homework done. All things come to those who wait-except the people who owe them money, A good wife laughs at her husband's jokes, not because they're clever, but because she is. It's harder to teach kids the alphabet these days. They all think comes right after T.

City offers classes in batik The Langley City Recreation Department is now offering a wide variety of programs for the coming winter season. Registration for these programs will extend from January 5th January 11th and take place at Douglas Hall. Those wishing. to ensure registration for popular classes are advised to register early. Children's Drama, Batik Fabric Printing, and New Games, are examples of just a few activities offered.

Children's Drama is a course introducing basic theatrical skills to elementary school children. It will include theatre games and improvisational techniques working into a small skit towards the end of the program. Classes will be. held at Simonds Elementary School on Monday evenings. Batik Fabric Printing will be held Wednesday nights at Portage House.

Batik is an ancient method of designing cloth using a wax resist. It has its roots in Africa, India, and Indonesia, where it is most highly developed. Colour is applied to the cloth in a dye bath, not printed on. Beginning with white cloth and working from the lightest to the darkest colour, you retain each colour by applying wax over it before the next dyeing. Cold water dyes must be used so as not to melt the wax.

When the colours have been added, the wax is removed by boiling the cloth. Fabric printing is the direct application of colour to fabric by brushing, spraying, or printing on the colour. Effective results can be obtained when batik and printing are combined. New Games provides an opportunity for youngsters to learning a wide variety of interesting new games and contests. This course is held on Thursdays at Langley Central Elementary School and is.

aimed at uniting the handicapped students at Tillicum with children from other Langley Schools. Further information on the programs offered by the Langley City Recreation Department will be made available at the special Open House held at Douglas Hall on January 7th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The winter programs will commence the week of January 16th.
