JOHN E. BARRETT, FA. AUTHOR, POET AND EDITOR, DIES Scranton, -John E. Barrett, the 84, author, poet, editor, and one of most prominent figures in. northeastern Pennsylvania, died today at his home bere after an.

finess of six years. He was. a native of Ireland and came to this country when a youth and immediately began 2 journalistic career with the late Joseph A. Soranton that brought him Into prominence. For years Mr.

'Barrett was editor of the Scranton Republican, and he! was 'regarded as 8 forceful writer. He also served as postmaster of! Scranton. He WAS a friend of the! late Charles Dana Gibson, New newspapor York Sun, and of that. other leading, time. One of Mr.

Barrett's greatest literary offorts was "Red Shadow." a story of the Indian massacre at Wyoming. Pa. He also wrote "Pennsylvania," 8 song of the Keystone State, which received official rocognition on. the occasion of the dedication of the Bernard Statuary at the Capitol: in Harrisburg. The dedication took place during the adminIstration of Governor John K.
