Opposition remaining for those three aggregations, while likely to provide stubborn resistance, appeared not to possess the necessary power to thwart the hopes of a triple deadlock for the conference crown.

Tennessee, rated for four straight weeks the nations No. 1 football machine, gained no prestge through a 13 to 0 verdict over Vanderbilts inspired Commodores and appaiently had the toughest assignments of the trio from here on out. The Volunteers, although chalking up their 21st consecutive triumph over a Vanderbiltteam that displayed superiority in all departments, face Kentuckys Wildcats and Auburn's Plainsmen in their drive toward the crown. Should Tennessee perform as it did against the Comomdores, either Kentucky or Auburn would give the Vols a big argument. Tulane and Georgia Tech, victorious over the week end, continue in the conference squabble this week as Tennessee prepares for its November 30 session with Kentucky.

Tulane, 25 to 0 winner over Columbia in an inter-sectional contest, meets Sewanee in New Orleans and Georgia Tech, winner by 6 to 0 over Alabama for its first triumph over the Crimson Tide since 1932, invades Gainesville for a duel with Florida. As the campaign moves into the final stages, one of the ranking games on the approaching program Involves the meeting between Mississippi States Maroons and the Mississippi Eebers, long-standing foes. Mississippi has lost only one game, that to Tulane, and Mississippi State has been defeated only by Auburn and Alabama. The two Mississippi teams, rated near the top in conference ranks, warmed up for their final game of the season with easy verdicts over non-league foes. Mississippi State whipped Millsaps 40 to 0 and Mississippi rolled to a 47 to 7 win over West Tennessee Teachers.

Floridas Gators posted a 13 to 0 win over Miami in a major test for the Sunshine State aggregation, but the records indicated Florida would not offer a serious test for Georgia Tech. Sewanee hurdled The Citadel 14 to 7 for its third triumph of the year but the Tigers can hope for nothing in the impending tussle with Tulanes big team. An ancient rivalry, one dating back to 1892, finds Georgias Bulldogs and Auburns Plainsmen clashing on neutral grounds at Columbus, Ga. These two clubs staged unexpected one-sided verdicts in Saturdays round of frays. Georgia romped to a 33 to 7 win over South Carolina and Auburn stunned Louisiana State 21 to 7.

Three games involving conference teams are scheduled for the regular Thanksgiving Day date, November 30. They are Tennessee-Kentucky, Auburn-Florida and Vanderbilt-Alabama. Oklahoma And North Carolina Drop From Ranks Of Unbeaten Lafayette and New Iberia meet in the Teche City tonight. The game was originally scheduled for last Friday night, but, because of inclement weather, it was postponed. The Lions will not be at full strength tonight.

Two men are on the ailing list. Holland Camos has a foot injury and Wilson Abboud is suffering from a nose injury. However, these two men are not wholly incapacitated. If it becomes necessary they can Rjay, but Whitman plans on using them as little as possible, it was stated. As game time draws near, the Lions reign as favorites.

Lafayette is a Class A A while New Iberia is a Class A school. The Lions have played some of the strongest teams in the state. The Lafayette youngsters have won six of these games and dropped three. While New Iberia has not played such an imposing array of opponents, they have a better record than the Lions. They have lost but one game this season.

The game promises to be an exciting one. Both teams use the forward pass extensively, a factor which opens up the game tends to break down the advantage which weight gives one team over another. The Lions have one of the finest passers in the district. F. B.

King is a calm and collected youngster who, throws a zippy and accurate pass. His usual receivers are Bolton, Hollier, Camos, Montgomery, and Abboud. New Iberia has a passer who is rated very highly. Broussard, a brother of Mim Broussard who was instrumental in the defeat New Iberia handed Lafayette two years ago, has tossed several touchdown passes this season. The Lions will have to tighten up their pass defense if they hope to bottle up this lad all night.

The probable starting lineup for the Lions is as follows Ends, Montgomery and Guidry; tackles, Moore and Caffery; guards, Booksh and Veazey; center, La-cour; backs, Bolton, King, Breaux, and Hollier. A blocked punt gave the Mississippi Teachers their two-point margin of victory in the fading minutes of the game. With the count tied at 7-7 a punt by Orand was blocked near the Teachers goal line by Wilson and the ball rolled into the end zone for a safety. Only a few moments before the Teachers had driven to the S. L. I.

three-yard line, where they were stopped by a determined and fighting crew of S. L. I. Bulldogs. After a break had given the Mississippi team the edge, Wilson on a pass from Al-essandri after the kickoff, raced 50 yards through the Bulldog team and crossed the goal line.

The play however, was called back when the officials ruled that pass from Alessandrl to Wilson was a forward and not a lateral. The Bulldogs took the lead in the first minute of play when Horace Adkins got away for a 70-yard run and crossed the goal standing up for the Bulldogs first marker. It was declared as the longest single touchdown Jaunt that has been made on the Southwestern field this year. The extra point was good and gave the Bulldogs a lead of 7 to 0. Toward the end of the first period the Mississippians came back to even the count.

D. Simms, taking the ball on an end-around play, skampered some 42 yards through the Bulldog team to cross pay dirt. Jones placekick for extra point was good, tieing up the count at 7-all. The Bulldogs made a short lived threat in the fading minutes of the quarter when Rodgers recovered a Teacher fumble on the visitors 30-yard stripe but on the next play the Bulldogs attempted to pass and the ball was snatched by a Teacher playe? as the period ended. The Bulldogs got a break soon after the opening of the second half as the visitors fumbled and Gagnet recovered the ball on the Teachers 29-yard line.

After a series of gams Southwestern was halted and the Hornets took the ball on downs. After recovering a punt, the Bulldogs began another drive which ended when Adkins fumbled and the Teachers recovered on their own 29-yard line. The quarter was sccreless. During the half period one of the most elaborate Homecoming Day features in the history of the college was staged. Miss Rosemary Doucet, Homecoming Queen was presented to the huge crowd, which numbered better than 5000, by L.

E. Fraz-ar, president of Southwestern Louisiana Institute. The large college band, the girls band, the Red Jacket, physical education students, and a large squad of drum majors and majorettes staged a spectacular program which climaxed with a formation spelling out the name of President Frazar in letters extending across the entire playing field. During the half period President Frazar spoke to the large group of fans on the progress that has been made at Southwestern during the past two years. He stated that the large expansion program is almost completed and he reviewed the various developments of the school.

A. M. Bujard, newly elected president of the Alumni Association was introduced to the old grads. Eight Bulldogs made their final homecoming appearance in S. L.

St M. and an unbeaten season.

One is a grand 145-pounder who doesnt even bother to wear shoulder pads. The other, a bow-legged cotton-top, is Just about the most dangerous runner in college football. On Thanksgiving Dav the old-fashioned November 30 one the Aggies come face to face with Cowboy Jack Crain and Gilly Davis, two kids who are Just as liable to bound 65 yards for a touchdown as look you in the eye. Backbone of the University of Texas Longhorns most of them sophomores, is this breathless pair. They have scored 12 touchdowns.

Eighty points is their total; the Texas team's is 105. Saturday the Crain-Davis partnership buried Texas Christian 25-19 in the most sensational Southwest conference battle of modern times. It went like this: Crain dodged 66 yards for a touchdown on the first scrimmage play. Davis passed to Crain for a touchdown. Davis, a muddy marvel, erased an 18-19 deficit in the shadowy finish with a 66-yard touchdown canter.

Davis, one the last play of the game, stretched his five feet, five inches to haul down a T.C.U. pass on his own goal line and race 58 yards. Coach D. X. Biole needed a fullback who could kick when Sophomore Pete Laydens leg went sour.

Davis took his 145 pounds right into the vacancy. Only a Jersey draped his shoulders pads bother him when he pounded smack into the middle of the 200-pound average Christian line. And he made yards. Mud caked his tiny feet but he booted every Texas kick for a fine average of 38.7 yards. Such is the setup for the big Aggies, probably the greatest defensive team in major college football.

The agile Aggies who have held enemy running gains to only 385 yards in nine games, or about 42 8 yards per game, must stop Crain and Davis if they want to spend New Years Day in the Rose or Sugar Bowl. State May Get TwoT earns In Bowl ilts NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 20 UP) Louisiana, that football-mad land where a fullback was once made a state Senator for his I grid exploits, may have two of its college teams in post-season Bowl games this year. Tulane is considered hereabouts as Cinch for the Sugar Bowl and now Louisiana Normal College, champions in one conference and leading the standings in another, might get into a Brain Bowl game with Slippery Rock Teachers of Pennsylvania. Normal has won its first nine games, rolling up 182 points to the opponents 18 and gaining an average of more than 300 yards per game.

All of that seemed so much wasted effort, as far as national glory was concerned, until yesterday it became known Slippery Rock was looking for an opponent to replace Maryville, Teachers who tentatively withdrew from a proposed Brain Bowl game so called because of the contestants were to be teachers' colleges. Seven Maryville players were going to National Guard camp'and would be unable to play. The athletic director was maneuvering to have them excused. Normal officials, although they would not commit themselves, let it be known they were definitely interested" in a Bowl game. Slippery Rock has completed its schedule unbeaten and untied but Normal plays Mississippi Teachers Thursday and Southwestern Louisiana Institute the following Thursday.

The Normal Demons already have won the Louisiana Intercollegiate Conference, composed of five schools, and top the Southern Intercollegiate Association standings with five victories. Another question: When could the game be played? The St. Joseph (Mo.) Chamber of Commerce, sponsoring the game, wants it to be Dec. 2. That is too early for Normal in view of its schedule, and it gets mighty cold in Missouri after that.

Loyola Stands At The Door Of Dixie Title BIRMINGHAM, Nov. 20 (Loyola of New Orleans stood at the Dixie Conferences football throne-room today with only a entest against Spring Hill separating the Wolfpack from the 1939 crown. Victory for Loyola over a week Spring Hill eleven would give the Wolves three victories against one defeat, a shade better than Mississippi Colleges mark of three victories, one defeat and a tie. Southwestern of Memphis, with no additional Dixie games, is undefeated, but Lynxes have played only two conference S. L.

20 (AO Any college football team that can get this far in the season and still hang onto its ideas about winning a championship, or taking a nice trip to some bowl for the year-end holidays, generally is very subborn about giving up such thoughts. Oklahomas Sooners, intent upon showing Missouris Paul Christman he couldnt pass sittmg down, forgot Ronnie King could stand up and kick. A a result, they suffered their first defeat, 7-6, at Missouri's hands Saturday and a similar loss in national prestige. King's kicking put them in the hole; a blocked kick produced the Tiger touchdown. A blocked kick, plus a hard-charging line and a superb pass defense, enabled once-beaten Duke to eliminate North Carolina from the unbeaten ranks, 13-3, and take the lead in the Southern Conference race.

Otherwise, the national gridiron situation remains much the same as a week ago and shows signs of working toward a final decision only in a few scattered sections this week. Cornell, Tennessee and Texas A. and held their places last week as national leaders among a dozen surviving unbeaten and untied teams, with Duquesne and Colorado Mines in second rank. The contenders for the Pacific Coast Conference title and a New Years Day Job in the Rose Bowl Southern California and D. C.

L. A. are unbeaten but tied, along with Tulane, Georgeown, Rutgers and Richmond. More than a dozen nig names in football, including Missouri, Ohio State, Duke and Norte Dame, are on the list of once-beaten teams that can hold up their heads in any company. The first of this years two Thanksgiving Days, Nov.

23, doesnt cut much ice in this weeks doings, but the Big Ten and Big Six titles come up for final settlement Saturday. Surveying the situation by sections for the coming week: East: Cornells 35-6 rout of a good Dartmouth team convinced the few remaining doubters the big red team is the Easts class. Cornell winds up the season Saturday against its traditional rival, Pennsylvania, which gave Michigan quite a tussle before going down, 19-17. It isnt hard to pick Cornell the Ivy league" champion. Duquesne, idle last Saturday, faces Carnegie Tech, which took a 21-0 drubbing from Holy Cross.

Georgetown, once tied, wound up its second straight unbeaten season with a 14-0 win over New York University and has some sort of a title claim Boston College, 19-0 winner over Boston U. and rival of Holy Cross for the poison ivy groups top ranking, takes on Kansas State in preparation for its Dec. 2 tussle with the Crusaders. Princetons Tigers took the Big Three crown by beating Yale, 13-7, and encounter Navy next. Yale and Harvard clash in their traditionally big" game, in which all past records are forgotten.

Penn State, which tied Army, 14-14, and Pittsburgh, beaten 14-13 by Nebraska, meet in another important contest, as do Columbia and Colgate, shut out 25-0 by Tulane and 7-0 by Syracuse, respectively. South Duke figures to retain its Southern Conference lead as it tapers off after the North Carolina game by playing North NOTICE Carolina State, which beat out Furman, 12-7. Richmond, unbeaten in the Conference and in line for a share of the title, plays Thursday against William and Mary, which downed Washington and Lee, 18-14, for its first circuit victory. Clemson, with similar prospects, is idle. Richmond and Clemson won easily from non-Con-ference foes last week.

Tennessee, despite its national prominence and 13-0 win over the determined Vanderbilt team, shares the Southeastern Conference lead with Georgia Tech, 6-0 winner over Alabama. The Vols dont play again until they meet Kentucky the se-ond Thanksgiving, Nov. 30. Meanwhile, Tech faces Florida, which turned in a rather surprising 13-0 victory over Miami, but hardly looks like a threat to the Yellowjackets. Tulane, also very mych in the title picture, has a workout listed against Sewanee, Just good enough to beat the Citadel, 14-7.

Auburn-Georgia and Mississippi-Mississippi State are other Conference pairings. Midwest: Ohio State cant get worse than a tie for the Big Ten title as a result of Saturdays 21-0 victory over Illinois. And even if the Buckeyes blow their climax game with Michigan, they wont be tied until Iowa gets past the Northwestern barrier. Iowa, with Nile Kin-nick again in the 60-minute starring role, beat Minnesota, 13-9, while Northwestern lost, 7-0, to Notre Dame. The situation is much the same in the Big Six, where Missouri has only to get past the weak Kansas team to claim the title.

Kansas lost, 14-7, to George Washington last week. Oklahoma and Nebraska, tied for second, settle their argument in the other windup game. Notre Dame, the mighty independent, faces Southern Califronia in a game that comes close to being the weeks standout. The Trojans were idle last Saturday in preparation. Michigan State plays Temple in another intersectional tilt.

Southeast: The all -conquering Texas Aggies are idle until they meet Texas Nov. 30. Baylors Bears will make another bid to stay in the running for the Southwest Conference title when they meet Southern Methodist. Baylor beat Centenary, 13-6, in a non-conference game; the Mustangs were upset victims of Arkansas, 14-0, Friday. Rice, latest victim of the Aggies, 19-0, plays Texas Christian, which went down, 25-19, before Texas.

Texas Tech, beaten by Marquette, 22-19, meets another intersectional foe, Montana. Pacific Coast: Although held to a scoreless tie by Santa Clara, a tough opponent for anybody, U. C. L. A.

still is in position to beat out Southern California for the Pacific coast Conference championship. The Uclans have a bard game coming up against Oregon State, which has lost only to U. S. C. and handed California a 21-0 lacing Saturday.

The classic Stanford-Califomia tussle has the status of a cellar-championship affair, as the Indians lost, 7-0, to Washington State. Oregon and Washington play Thursday, as don San Jose State and Fresno State, two of the unbeaten and untied little fellows. Rocky Mountain Big Seven: Colorados 12-6 triumph over Brigham Young gave the Buffs a clear lead in the Big Seven lead, with Denver and Utah tied for second. Utah moved up with a 42-7 win over Colorado State and this week encounters Utah State, 20-13 winner over Wyoming. Denver plays Idaho Thursday as a warmup for the title scrap with Colorado a week later.
