P) Tony Can-fconerl, the chunky miniature edition of Babe Ruth who came about as near as any fighter ever has to winning back a title after he lost it, starts another attempt to scale the championship heights this week. Tony lost his lightweight crown to Barney Ross on a close decision at Chicago last summer and failed by a slim margin to regain it in New York three months later. Now he is slated to face Frankie Klick of San Francisco in a 10-rounder at Ridgewood Grove.

Freddie Miller, the National Boxing Association featherweight champion, also gets into action this week to end a bit more interest to a long but rather dull program. Although outplaying their opponents, the Southwestern Louisiana Institute Bulldogs lost a close game to the Mississippi State Teachers Saturday at Hattiesburg, the score being 6 to 0. The Bulldogs made nine first downs as compared with one for the Mississip-pians, and gained 125 yards from scrimmage, against 86 by the Teachers.

The Mississippi team scored in the first quarter when Boyd uncorked a 30-yard forward pass to Talbert who went five yards for a touchdown. The try for the extra point was blocked. Southwestern advanced the ball within the 10-yard line three times during the engagement but lost on downs. Once the hall was within six Inches of first down. Fumbles proved costly to Southwesterns chances.

Duhe and May played an outstanding game for S. L. while Boyd and Phillips featured for the Teachers. Lafayette Hi Lions Defeat Iberia, 13-7 a very good impression here Saturday afternoon in a tilt with Lafayette High, holding the local eleven to a 13 to 7 score. According to reports, the Iberia players, under the direction of Coach Gunn, are particulary anxious to average a defeat which htey suffered at the hands of the Tigers last year. The two schools have been keen grid rivals ever since they started meeting each other on the gridiron.

They have met for the past four years, with Iberia winning the first three tilts by close margins. Last years game was also close. Cathedral winning, 7 to 0. The Tigers will play two teams within four days, as they meet Menard Memorial High of Alexandria, on the Cathedral grounds, next Saturday. This will be the first game between the two schools.

While not much information nessed the hard-fought battle ln which the locals emerged winners by the count of 13 to 7. The visitors fumbled on the opening kick-off, and the Lions recovered on New Iberias 30-yard line. New Iberia scored a touchdown through a pass from Derouen to Pharr. The visitors threatened in the final period when they carried the hall to the Lions 15 -yard line, hut lost their Loyola Downs Spring Hill; Score 45-0 OPELOUSAS, Oct. 23 The OpelousaB High School Tigers stepped Into Close A football when they defeated the Plaquemine team 26 to 0, ln a game at Plaquemine. This victory gave the Tigers a total of 144 points scored against their opponents during the present grid sea son, without the Opelousas goal line being crossed. The local team woni from Marksville 33 to 0, and from Cottonport 84 to 0.

In the game with Plaquemine, I V. Chachere, veteran Opelousas fullback, led the Tigers attack. He made one touchdown scored two extra points, completed seven passes, and was 01 constant threat throughout the contest. Other outstanding players were Cleve Darbonne, left end for the Tigers, Stewart Roy, center, and Ortega and Bartell.
