Palmyra Postal Service Operating Since Postal service in the Palmyra area has been provided by the government since 1804. At that time it was known as the Palmstown Post Office. In 1810, the name was changed to Palmyra. As early as 1883, a direct mail dispatch from Harrisburg at 4 a.m. contained mail from Philadelphia and New York with mail posted by 6 p.m.

Ferry's store, located in the Valley Trust Co. building in downtown Palmyra, is observing its 65th anniversary this week. Purchased from Rhelt Brothers in 1905 by the Ferry brothers, George U. and John, the slore was operated as a partnership until 1924 when George U. Ferry bought his brother's chare of the business.

In 1939, Mark Z. Ferry, son of George U. Ferry, was appointed manager. He acquired th. business in 1951.

Ferry's was operated as a general store from 1905 until 1939 at which time the grocery department was discontinued in order to expand the ready to wear departments. In 1968, Ferry's almost doubled its size by expanding into the rooms formerly occupied by the Palmyra-Lebanon County Automobile Club. George U. Ferry, Daniel Nye and Mark Z. Ferry, the present proprietor.

Main Street Palmyra, Pa. Phone 838-1391 WAYS! VFW Auxiliary Active In Palmyra Community In August 1964, the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6417 was organized.

This arm of the organisation has assisted the men in various ways. Three big projects on the national scale supported by the 90 members are visits and contributions to the Lebanon VA Hospital, support of the VFW National Home and cancer education and prevention research. Through its Americanism activities, the auxiliary sponsors a Voice of Democracy essay contest each year in the local high school. Support is also given to the Scotland School for Veterans Children. At Christmas the auxiliary helps provide a party for the children and gives food baskets to needy families.

In 1955, a Junior Auxiliary was organized through the youth activities committee. This group of young people contincs to be active. They take the forefront in the poppy sale each year with a member of the group being selected as the poppy queen.
