Sclurdcy, Apttl 10. 1976 Poj. I urfoiglon (N.C. IIMES NEWi Ask Dick Kleiner! Darleen Carr: In Pilot of New Western Mac's split HOLLYWOOD Darleen Carr seems to have it made. She is a beautiful young woman, possessed of dazzling eyes and smile.

She has a crystal clear singing voice. And she has an eternally happy disposition. The only thing she doesn't have is the time to ride the horse who started the whole thing. Darleen springs from the musical Farnon and Oehman families. Her father, Brian Farnon, is the conductor at Harrah's Tahoe.

Two uncles are conductors, too. Her mother was Rita Oehman, one half of a singing act call Darleen Carr ed The Oehman Twins. Two older sisters, Shannon and Charmian, were in show business first. Charmian played the oldest Trapp child, Liesl, in "The Sound of Music." When Darleen was 13, she sang like a bell. And the producers of "The Sound of Music" heard her and used her voice in the film it is Darleen who does most of the high notes for the children and the nuns in that movie.

After that there were offers to do other things. The big reason she took the oses she did was to make enough money to buy a horse. "I was crazy about horses," she says. "I always wanted to have my own. And in a year or so I did buy one.

His name was Jody. He was wonderful. Only problem was that I got so busy I had no time to ride him." That condition still persists, and it is likely to get worse before it gets better. At the moment Darleen Carr plays Karl Maiden's daughter on ABC's The Streets of San Francisco. It's a recurring part and she had averaged about six appearances a year over the past few years.

But now Quinn Martin, who produces Streets, has also put her in the pilot of one of his new shows, a Western called The Deputies. "They have arranged it so that, if The Deputies sells," she says, "I'll do both shows. I'll split my time between the two of tfiem." One of her first jobs after "The Sound of Music" was at Universal. It was that studio which decided her real name Farnon was too difficult to pronounce. So she took the name of Carr, which her big sister Charmian had pioneered.

Who says commercials don't have impact! Those funny Stiller and Meara wine commercials (Blue Nun) led to a dramatic increase in the sales of the product, at a time when foreign wine sales were down in the U.S. In 1969, case sales of Blue Num were 85,000. In 1974, case sales had increased to 750,000, an increase of 1700 per cent. Interestingly enough, the ads were tested on TV and didn't do well. It was con SsiowBiz sidered only marginally more effective.

Also, originally, Louis Nye and Shelley Berman did commercials along with Jerry and Anne. But the latter pair proved so popular only they were used after the first year. 4 Cliff De Young, who played Lindbergh in "The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case," says it took him a while to learn the difference between film acting and stage acting. "When acting in film, by Flash Jy Dick Kleiner DEAR DICK: I recently read a magazine which said that Mac Davis is getting a divorce. Also that Sarah Davis has something going with Glen Campbell.

Could you tell me if this is true. And how old is Scotty Davis? J.G., Port Colborne, Can. It's all true, alas and alack. As for young Scolty who is not Sarah's child, by the way he is now 12. DEAR DICK: I heard that on the release of the hit single, "Love Rollercoaster," there is a blood curdling scream in the background.

I heard that during the recording, a girl was murdered in the next room and the scream was only heard when the record came out. I listened to the record and heard that scream and it nearly scared me out of my drawers. Is lhat the real story behind the scream? P. ANDERSON, Clarksville, Tcnn. Several people have asked about that scream.

The made by a group called The Ohio Players, is out as a single and on their album called "Honey." The rumor is that a girl named Esther Sgobba, who poses for album covers, went to the studio to demand money for some back work and got killed. The rumor is totally false. Esther is still around. The truth is lhat, during the recording, piano player Billy Beck felt that a scream would be appropriate after all, the song is about a rollercoaster and people do scream on rollercoasters so he just screamed. DEAR been waiting for someone to write toyou and express our feelings about that rated 3 P.M.

show on Chnncl 3, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. I can't understand the producer expecting such a show to be seen in the daytime. All they talk about is sex. I miss the afternoon movie. THOMAS E.

BRUTEN, Stockton, Ca. That show is syndicated, which means it is up to the individual station to program it when they choose. In Los Angeles, for example, it isn't seen until 11:30 P.M. So you should complain to your local station manager. DEAR DICK: I read a wonderful book, "Come and Get It," by Wisconsin writer Edna Ferber.

I understand a movie was made of it in the 1930's. If so, who played the main parts? Also, who was the beautiful actress playing opposite Gregory Peck in "Duel In the DONNA TECHMEIER, Lena, Wis. Yes, "Come and Get was made in 1936 and was a great one. It starred Joel McCrea and Frances Farmer and Walter Brennan won his first Oscar as a supporting actor for that film incidentally, that was the first year supporting actors were honored. The "Duel In the Sun" leading lady was Jennifer Jones.

DEAR DICK: I have watched the fine TV presentations of "Rich Man, Poor Man" and have enjoyed them. But something puzzles me. On the second which look place in 1950, 1 spotted a '55 Studcbakcr. And on the third show which took place in 1954, 1 saw a '5G Plymouth taxi. Am I wrong or did they accidentally use the wrong autos? MIKE CAIN, Wintersville, Ohio.

You're probably right. Nobody keeps track of what cars were used in what scenes, so there is no way now of checking, except to show the film to an expert. But those things happen, hard as they try to avoid them. Most people aren't as eagle eyed as you. DEAR DICK: Could you tell me the last lines of All In the Family's theme song, the one Archie and Edith sing.

R.H. APPLETON, Taber, Can. The line a lot of people can't seem to catch is this "Gee, our old LaSalle ran great." The problem is few people today remember the LaSalle, which was a Cadillac competitor in the '30s. The show was so aware that the public didn't understand the line they recently had Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton re record it, enunciating very clearly, but it obviously hasn't helped much. DEAR DICK: My son and I have a bet on how much Baretta weighs.

I say afiout 165 and my son says he weighs 200 or more. Who's right? E.J.W. SON, Rock Falls, 111. You're closer, Pop. Robert Blake, who plays Baretta, is 5'9" and his weight is listed at 155.

Claude Akins had to do some skin diving for a segment of Movin' On and he studied with a professional diver in a swimming pool at Mobile, where the segment was filmed. Has Claude found a new hobby? No. "Diving hurts my ears," he says. Rich Little says he has so many voices in his head, "when people see me coming down the street, they say 'Here they Kurt Russell and Tim Matheson are starring in a pilot movie for NBC TV called "The Quest."
