Jesse "A. Bruner The Dell Methodist Church has its origin in Moore's Chapel which was established between Blytheville and Big Lake Island some time in 1878. Before the first church sanctuary was built the people held services under brush arbors and in the homes of members. The land for the building Was given by G. E. Moody one of the, then, few well established cotton farmers of the community. The church was named after Rev. Moore who was pastor at the time the building was constructed. For some 20 years Moore's Chapel was on the Blytheville circuit. Then, in 1898, the congregation decided decided to relocate and build a new church plant in Dell. They carefully dismantled the old church building conserving the best of the lumber for use in the new one. However, that winter an epidemic of influenza struck a terrible blow to the community. The stacks of good pine lumber intended for use in the church were utilized in building coffins in •which to bury the multitude of the dead. Thus or several years church services were held again in the homes of church members and in the old Dell school house, and later, in the new school building. It was in 1906 that the first Del Methodist Church sanctuary was erected. The lot was given by W. E. Rozell. Since it was the only church building in town Methodists shared it with other denominations. The Dell congregation was eventually placed on the Manila area. In time they added to the sanctuary needed space for education and worship. But this, too, was soon outgrown. In 1949, under the leadership of Rev. Eugene Hall, the Dell congregation built the present modern brick church building which has served well the needs of the members. It stands today as a symbol of the faith, sacrifices, and concern of the saints of history who made it possible, and of those, who today sustain and preserve it or future generations. Among the ministers who have served the Dell Methodist Church over the last 90 yeras are L. M. Lot who was pastor at the time the 1906 building was constructed; D. H. Buchanan; F. M. Sweete; Ira Brumley, executive secretary of the North Arkansas Conference of the Methodist Church; Paul Galloway, Bishop of the Arkansas Area; C. H. Bumpers • J R. Nelson; Don Holman; G. R.
