Page 18 Lebanon Daily News, Lebanon, Friday, June 9,1972 At Least Ten Ready To Run In Belmont NEW YORK (UPI)-At least 10horses, and possibly 12. were expected to be entered today for Saturday's running of the $125.000 added Belmont Stakes with Riva Ridge Ihe favorite in the last of the Triple Crown classics. There was, a chance that' trainer I.ueien Laurin also would enter Upper Case and Spanish Riddle in addition to Riva Ridge in the I 1-2 mile event which also was expected to draw Key to the Mint. No Le Hace. Smiling Jack.

Big Spruce. Ruritania. Zulu Tom. Feeiex. and the entry of Eager Exchange and Price Fauquier.

Riva Ridge, winner of the Kentucky Derby, but fourth in the Preakness. and No Le Hace. second in both races, were the only two starters to "go all the way" in the classics and Laurin was glad the tour was drawing to a close. "This is the last big one and be glad when it's over," said Laurin who will decide before the entry box closes today whether or not to enter his second stringers. If the weather forecast called for rain on Saturday he would enter Upper Case with Bobby Woodhouse assigned the mount.

And he would discuss the situation with owner Roy Anderson before reaching a decision on Spanish Riddle with Paul Feliciano ready to ride, Ron Turcotte handles Riva Ridge just as he did in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness while Braulio Baeza handles Key to the Mint for the Rockeby Stable and trainer Elliott Burch. Burch has a remarkable Belmont Stakes record, winning with the three horses he has Dancer. Quadrangle and Arts and Letters. Key to the Mint looms as second choice at 4 to 1 with Riva Ridge an even money favorite. Key to the Mint, who skipped the Kentucky Derby and was third in the Preakness.

has since won the Withers Stakes, running a mile in a fast 1:34 45. And in his final workout Wednesday for the Belmont Stakes, Key to the Mint covered six furlongs in 1:10. "I lost a few hours sleep after that." Laurin admitted. But he was satisfied with his colt's condition. "Riva Ridge is just as good as he was for the Derby and for the Preakness." he said of the Kentucky Derby winner who also has been working well for the Belmont Stakes.

"I guess the race track at Pimlico beat him." he reflected, referring to the sloppy track. "This track is different. The sand packs in the rain and Riva Ridge won the Futurity here in the slop last fall." he pointed out. No Le Hace is lucky to be in the Belmont. In the Withers Stakes on May 31.

the Louisiana and Arkansas Derby winner finished a poor sixth and lacked the strong stretch run that for brief moments made him look like a winner in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. "He came out of the Withers with six or seven 'speedy cuts'. We were lucky they weren't worse. They only filled a little bit and we took that out with poultices." trainer Homer Pardue revealed. By Hoerner (Alou). Bears Add Two In Hockey's Reverse Draft The Hershey Bears have added two players as a result of the reverse draft procedures in the hockey leagues. Drafted from the Philadelphia Flyers' r- ganixaUon was left-winger Hank Nowak. Nowak played sparsely last season for the Richmond Robins of the American Hockey League. The other player that will be coming to the Bears and should bolster their t- minding chores is Roy Edwards.

Edwards started out with Pittsburgh last season but decided to retire after 15 games into the season. He later returned to the Penguins for the remainder of the term.
