Second runnerup is Miss Houston, Kimberly Tomes. 3rd runnerup is Karol Korurek, Miss Dallas and 4th runnerup was Naomi Medrano, Miss Lulac.

Miss Waco Peggy Burt and Juanita Vasquez, Miss Lake Whitney 74, were both in the top 12 out of a field of 42 contestants from all over Texas. Miss Dallas, Karol Kocurek won the Miss Photogenic title and Miss Morningside Mall (a suburb of El Paso). Debbie Ann Jones won the Miss Congeniality title. The new Miss Texas was born in Japan, while her father was stationed there in the air force. They moved to Boston, then to El Paso just in time for her to enter the first grade She is 19 now.

She has five older brothers Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Guy B. Gray. She graduated last fall from El Paso High School and plans to attend of at El Paso.

Last year she was 2nd nerup in the Miss El Paso pageant so was encouraged to run again. She won it April 26. It was also the first time he had ever been away from home without his parents. The troop went to a Boy Scout camp. a time it he recollected.

Dawson graduated from Alba High School and continued his education at Paris Jr. College where he majored in commercial art. Realizing he had no talent in this field, he changed his major to physical education when he began classes at Baylor. Upon graduation from Baylor, Dawson was drafted and spent two years in the Army.

When he was discharged, he returned to Baylor as assistant head coach. Bill Menefee, former head basketball coach retired in 1972 leaving the position open to Dawson. Dawson was first asked to be chairman of the Good Turn Day Drive in 1974 by Weldon Frost, community relations director of Goodwill Industries in Waco. know anything about Dawson said. knew a lot about scouting.

All I knew about Goodwill was that if you had something you want, put it in that big yellow Dawson said he was given a tour of Goodwill warehouses where items are repaired and restored for placement in the stores. you could see their Dawson said of the handicapped persons working for Goodwill. a handicapped person feels he is doing something helpful toward the community, he feels good about If everyone could go through and meet these people, it would help Good Turn Day. Goodwill gives a lot of people an opportunity they ordinarily He explained that he have to be asked to participate again. was a great experience.

It helped me quite a bit. I want to do it again." The purpose of Good Turn Day, which is set for Nov. 2 this year, is to fill up the Goodwill warehouses for the winter months when contributions are slow. Dawson's duties as chairman include contacting local news media and all scout troops. This job may be slightly more extensive this year.
