AG warning of money scams MONTPFT TF.R The Vermont Attorney General's office says it's getting an increasing number of complaints about "free money" and other financial fraud scams. Attorney General William Sorrell says complaints have been received about grandparent and friend or relative impostor scams in which someone claiming to be a loved one in trouble in another country seeks money by wire transfer. Other scams involve sweepstakes, lottery, and grants in which people are told they have won money but need to make a wire transfer or make a payment by check or credit card.

Sorrell is reminding people that "free money" is notfree and to not give financial information to any solicitor unless you have verified the source is legitimate. Woman convicted in mother's death BURLINGTON A Burlington woman has pleaded no contest to charges that she contributed to her mother's fatal drug overdose this summer. Thirty-four-year-old Lisa Fox agreed to a deal with prosecutors on Tuesday. Fox had initially denied allegations that she gave her mother, Cindy Goulet, the drug Dilaudid that led to her death on June 3. The 54-year-old died of a lethal combination of Dilaudid and cocaine.

According to a police affidavit, Fox's sister told police that Fox had given their mother Dilaudid, and another woman, 28-year-old Anna Clark, of Winooski, had brought crack cocaine to the residence. The Burlington Free Press reported that Clark, who also has been charged in connection with Goulet's death, pleaded innocent in August. She told police she didn't know where the three Dyson model vacuums valued at $600, $500 and $330 were taken from there.
