I reviewed your TV debut, and if memory holds, I think that I expressed the opinion that you had pushed TV backward -approximately five years. Honestly, I hated to say it. Since that time, I've watched your infrequent TV appearances with mingled feelings.

I'd always conclude, however, that you would be a top TV personality with the right vehicle. But what was that? Man-in-the-Street Routine Suddenly, I remembered you tickling the nation's risibilities with a bit. you did on your old radio shows. It was a sort of man-in-the-street opinion gathering, in which you interviewed guests about an unusual topic of the day. The ensuing dialogue was contrived beautifully, and the resulting humor was hilarious.

Groucho Marx, as if you didn't know, gave this same idea a slight twist, and need I remind you what his last Nielsen was? Fred, your "Judge for Yourself" show, which is seen Tuesdays at. 10 p.m., has a few of these desirable elements buried in it somewhere, but It would take more discerning eyes and ears than mrne to find them. "Judge for Yourself," from what has been on exhibition to date, is not a very good TV program. It could be. Here's what I found wrong with it according to my notes jotted down last.

Tuesday: Your introductory remarks were below the Allen standard of humor. Yon delivered them in a nervous and hesitant manner. The guest talent experts Leon I id off, Earl Wilson and James Wong Howe sat in their appointed places like unanimated puppets. The professional- talent was good, but with the exception of Raymond Chase, a miniature concertina player (the instrument, not Raymond, was tiny), quite commonplace. To ease your personal tension (and mine) why not trade jests with your fellow celebrities, the talent ex-perls, arrd forget your amateur guest contestants for the most part.

Tell Goodson and Todman, your producers, to secure more unusual talent. Really Fred, we televiewers are led up with singers, dancers and more singers. Youra could be a very amusing and highly rewarding half hour's entertainment if the present format was changed somewhat. A lot of people have been on vacation and have never seen your program. Why not institute certain reforms now before it's too late? Your3 for top ratings, BOB.

P.8. In certain well-informed quarters they're saying that you are now sorry you ever accepted your present format. I don't believe it. I mentioned Groucho Marx above, and there's another fellow who makes with the funnies and engages talent on his show. "He's doing served to win.
