Dominic George Bodkin cine for 53 years. The couple a surgeon in the Bushwick section for more than 50 years, died Friday. Dr. Bodkin was born in Hoboken on Oct. 4, 1876, the son of Martin R.

Bodkin, a merchant, An and Elizabeth. named Dominic Densner George Bodkin, at the time was a well-known physician in downtown Brooklyn. As a youth in Hoboken, he was intrigued by family tradition that held the Bodkins to been a family of physicians for several generations in their native Ireland. He attended the of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, was graduated in 1899, and in 1904 was married to the former Madeleine W. Fisher of Brooklyn in the R.

C. Church of St. John the Baptist Lewis and Willoughby Aves. The Tradition Continues He took his bride to the residence at 897 Lafayette Ave. where he was to practice medi- raised five children, two of them doctors, and one a dentist.

A solemn requiem mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the same church where he was married. Dr. Bodkin was chief attending surgeon at St. Catherine's Hospital in Bushwick 1919 to 1941, thereafter serving consulting surgeon.

Earlier, about the time of World War he was attending surgeon at Greenpoint Hospital. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, and was active also in the Brooklyn Surgical Society and Kings County Medical Society. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Madeleine G. Bodkin; four sons, Dr. Dominic, George Bodkin John picture editor for the Associated Press New York office; Dr.

Francis F. Bodkin, a dentist, and Dr. Richard L. Bodkin. Also -a sister, Gertrude P.

Bodkin, and 17 grandchildren. Mrs. Helen Rooney, Teacher For 25 Years in City Schools A solemn requiem mass Mrs. Helen Rooney, a teacher in the New York City school system for 25 years, will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St.

Vincent Ferrer R. C. Church, with a brother, the Rev. Herbert P. Redmond, an instructor at St.

Francis Preparatory School, officiating Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Mrs. Rooney died Thursday at the age of 47. Born in Bay Ridge, she attended St. Augustine's High School, the Maxwell Teacher Training School and Fordham University, taught for some years in Public School 81, Queens, and later in Public School 207, in 1 this borough.

She was a member of the Catholic Teachers Guild and was active in the Rosary Society of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. She and her husband, Edward W. Rooney, an attorney, lived at 3504 Farragut Road. Her father, John J.

Redmond, chief stationary engineer of the old Brooklyn Times building until 1937, died July 18 at the age of 84. Surviving, besides her husband and Father Redmond, are her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Mine Blast Injures 7 At Depth of 900 Feet Pottsville, Aug. 15 (U.P.) Seven men were injured in an explosion on the fourth level of the Martin mine in Port Carbon near here last night. The men were preparing to set off dynamite 900 feet below the surface when the blast occurred.

15- Edwin S. Hall, former vice president, director and general counsel of Esso Standard Oil Company and a recognized authority on anti-trust legislation, died Thursday night in Farmsington Hospital. Mr. Hall, who was a member of Montauk Masonic Lodge, Brooklyn, was taken ill at his Summer home in Weld, Me. He was 66.

He was a former restdent of Montclair, N. J. Following his retirement in 1950 after 30 years service with Esso and its parent company, the Standlard sey), Oil he resided Company in (New Lake Jer- Mohawk, N. J. Mr.

Hall participated in drafting the Trade Practice Agreement for the petroleum industry, known as the Code of Ethics, which was approved by the Federal Trade Commission in 1929, He also took part in framing the National Industrial Recovery Act Code for the petroleum industry. He was a native of East Dixfield, Me. Titanic Survivor Now 98 Philadelphia, Aug. 15 (U.P.) Joseph L. Boden, 68, confidential clerk of the Appellate Division, Supreme Court, Second Judicial Department, died Thursday in Red Bank, N. J. His home was at 150 Street. Born in Brooklyn in 1884, Mr.

Boden was a lifelong borough resident. He was appointed an assistant deputy clerk in the Appellate Division on Jan. 15, 1927. He was promoted to the post of confidential clerk May 1, 1952. During his 26 years of service in the court, Mr.

Boden was a wellknown figure to the members of the bar. Mr. Boden was active in Re- publican politics and was associated with the late D. Harry Ralston and George C. Dagher, former G.

O. P. leaders of the 1st A. D. He is survived by his Mrs.

Katherine O'Brien Boden; two sons, Francis J. and Thomas three daughters, Julia Mrs. Mary Mahr and Mrs. Margaret McDonough and three brothers and a sister. The funeral procession will leave the Jere J.
