Buyers and sellers do not sho enouen courage of their convictions to force prices ei'her up or down to any considerable extent. Such a condition of aftairs is not conducive to anv volume of speculation.

If any contingency should arise, which would bring about a wider volume of public Interest In the market It is possible that prices would improve, but the long continued professional control against this. The prospect of possibly a record breaking wheat crop is anuther feat, ure which is hard to overcome, and Europe shows persistent indifference. Dealings were only moderately actlvt and Irregular, aa waa to be expected after the sharp rally of the previous two sessions.

The chief characteristic of the aession was heavy profit taking. There waa also some mild bear pressure and London markets were steady, except for Americans, and with nominal arbitrage sales here. The 'market stood the realising very well, in the opinion of expert operators. In fact, quite a number of Issues showed pronounced strength and closed with gains, notably Baltimore and Ohio and Copper. The bank statement was favorable, with a good gain in cash, large reductions in loans and deposits and an increase of $35,000,000 in surplus reserves.
