The Eagle Sports Scoreboard D2 Classified D4 Monday, July 16, 1990 Chisox rally by Yankees Royals humble Sox 13-4 NEW YORK (AP) Sammy Sosa's two-run bloop single with the bases loaded highlighted Chicago's five-run sixth inning as the White Sox rallied to beat the New York Yankees 8-5 yesterday for their 11th consecutive road victory. American League New York has lost five straight and finished the season series 2-10 against Chicago. The defeats include Andy Hawkins' losing no-hitter on July 1 and Melido Perez's winning no-hitter on Thursday. The Yankees scored four runs in the fifth off Eric King to take a 4-2 lead, but the White Sox came right back in the sixth with five runs on five hits. Rookie Alan Mills (1-3) replaced Yankees starter Dave LaPoint after Dan Pasqua reached on a bad-hop single with one out.

Pinch-hitter Robin Ventura doubled and Ozzie Guillen walked to load the bases before Sosa dropped a single down the right-field line to tie the score. Mills attempted to pick Sosa off at first base, but threw the ball away allowing Guillen to score the go-ahead run. Lance Johnson and Ivan Calderon followed with RBI singles. Perry led an 18-hit attack with a single, double and three stolen bases as the Royals scored three runs to break a sixth-inning tie yesterday and spark a 13-4 rout. "We snowed a lot of character to take three of four from the Red Sox here," Kansas City manager John Wathan said.

"We scored a lot of runs, and the pitching was good." The Royals outscored the Red Sox 27-16 and outhit them 57-39. Boston needed a five-run eighth-inning rally for its only victory Saturday in the second game of a day-night doubleheader. Nothing to do "There's nothing we can do about it. It's over," Boston's Tony Pena said. "We didn't hit as well as we're capable of hitting.

We didn't play defense as well as we can." Kansas City began the day 15 games behind first-place Oakland in the American League West. Boston started it with a half-game lead over Toronto in the East. Reds edge Mets 2-1 Charlton emgerges from pen to win CINCINNATI (AP) Norm Charlton won his first start in two seasons and Eric Davis had a pair of RBI doubles as the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 2-1 yesterday. National League Charlton (7-4), promoted to the starting rotation from the bullpen, made his first start since Oct. 1, 1988, when he was a rookie. He pitched four perfect innings, but tired in the fifth and sixth innings before reliever Rob Dibble came on in the seventh. Charlton allowed two hits, struck out five and walked three.

Mariano Duncan led off the Reds fourth with a double off Sid Fernandez (5-6) and Davis doubled him in two batters later. Duncan led off the sixth with a triple and Davis again doubled him home. Duncan, who singled in the first, has eight hits in his last 15 at-bats. The Mets scored their only run in the eighth off Dibble. Pinch-hitter Gregg Jefferies walked, went to third on a one-out single by Dave Magadan and scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Mark Carreon.

After Dibble walked Kevin McReynolds, Randy Myers relieved and struck out pinch-hitter Howard Johnson to end the inning. Myers finished for his 20th save, six of them against the Mets. The Mets loaded the bases in the fifth on two walks and Tim Teufel's single, but Fernandez flew out to center to end the inning. (AP) Jennifer Capriati stumbled before shedding an unfamiliar self-consciousness for her first tournament victory yesterday, beating Ros Fairbank 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the Mount Cranmore International Women's Tennis butter, winning all six of its games. "They're a great bunch of kids to work with they're not just great softball players," said coach Joe McGovern. "We had a great team effort all year." Southampton had come out of the losers' bracket to meet Pittsfield for the second time yesterday afternoon. That's exactly what two Pittsfield Recreation Department girls' softball teams accomplished yesterday. The 12-and-under All-Stars defeated Southampton at Conant Park yesterday to claim the American Softball Association Junior Olympic Massachusetts State Championship. It marked the first championship for a Pittsfield team in 20 years of play in that division. The All-Stars now advance to Jamestown buries Pittsfield 12-2 Tennis "It sure feels good to win my first tournament," the 14-year-old sensation told the cheering crowd.

The Expos added a single run in the seventh on an RBI single by Robbie Katzaroff. They closed out the scoring with two in the eighth when Mark Tsitouris reached on third baseman Tim McClinton's second error of the game, and Friedland followed with his first home run of the year. Friedland was 4-for-4 in the contest. Jamestown collected 16 hits off three Pittsfield hurlers. The Mets actually scored first, getting an unearned run in the first inning.

Kyle Washington had a bunt single off winning pitcher Rob Baxter (2-1), stole second and then third, scoring when catcher Fitzpatrick's throw sailed into left field. Washington had two hits. JAMESTOWN, N.Y. The Pittsfield Mets got a pay-back with interest from the Jamestown Expos yesterday afternoon. After sweeping Jamestown in two games at Wahconah Park over the weekend, the teams moved to College Stadium, where the Expos rolled over Pittsfield 12-2.

The loss ended Pittsfield's two-game winning streak and halted an Expo eight-game skid. Castillo will start Juan Castillo (1-4, 5.70 earned run average) goes to the mound for Pittsfield tonight at 7. He will be opposed by Chris Haney (2-0, 0.41 ERA). Haney is the son of former Baltimore Oriole catcher Larry Haney and was a second-round selection by Montreal in June's amateur draft. N.Y.-Penn League With the score tied 2-2, Jamestown erupted for seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth.
