Its goals are to increase inter- est in the priesthood as a vocation and in religious life, and to increase the number of properly education lay people willing to actively parttci- pate in the church community. It will be a time for quiet meditative I prayer.

The public is welcome. First Baptist to kick off fund drive PITTSFIELD First Baptist Church, 88 South St, will kick-off the World Mission Offering campaign at the 10 ajn. service tomorrow. The offering will help support 152 missionaries around the world Ashley C. This course covers the basic tenets of the Christian faith and worship. It is a challenging, comprehensive course that seeks to make sense out of the many building blocks of the Christian faith. Richard L. Floyd, pastor of First Church. It consists of eight consecutive Thursday evening sessions, from October 3rd until November 2lst. Each session will begin with a simple supper, followed by a two-hour class. There is a S25 registration fee, which includes a course book and the meals.

Series on adult challenges to continue STAMFORD, Vt. The board of deacons of Stamford Community Church will present the second in a series of seven video and discussion programs for teens and adults tomorrow in the church's community room. The series, "Life on the Edge: Preparing for the Challenges of Adulthood," is produced by James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family Ministries, and is moderated by Pastor William R. Wilson Jr.

The topic will be "The Myth of Safe Sex." The free program will begin with a light meal at 5:30, followed by the video and discussion. Baby-sitting will be provided for children under 13 in the church's nursery. The church is at 1059 Main Road. Reservations are not required for the series, but are suggested to help with meal planning. Talk set on challenges facing Jews PITTSFIELD Shulamit "Shula" Reinharz, cited as the founder of the world's first graduate program in Jewish women's studies, will i address the challenges Jews face in today's world and the leadership roles Jewish women may take in attempting to resolve the problems on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m.. at Congregation Knesset Israel, 16 Colt Road. Sponsored by the Women's Division of the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires, the presentation is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Reinharz served from 1992 to 2001 as director of the women's studies program at Brandeis University, where she earned her master's and doctorate degrees. She completed her undergraduate degree at Barnard College. An author, researcher, speaker and Jewish leader, she was born in Amsterdam to Holocaust survivors. She was raised in the United States and has lived in Israel. She established the Hadassah International Research Institute on Jewish Women.

All are welcome to attend. Seminarians begin field training PITTSFIELD Two seminarians have begun a year of field educa- tion at First Church of Christ, Congregational in Park Square.

Margaret Flowers and Linda Schwab are students at Northeastern Seminary in Rochester, N.Y. where they are candidates for master of arts degrees in theological studies and master of divinity degrees. Flowers, a city native, graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1969. She received her bachelor's degree in biology from Mount Holyoke College and a doctorate from the University of Texas in Austin. She joined the biology faculty of Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., in 1982 and was named professor in 1989.

She recently served two terms as chair- man of the natural and biological sciences department. Schwab received her bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wells College and a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Rochester, N.Y. She has been on the faculty of Wells College since 1983, where she is now professor of chemistry, on leave until next year. As part of their field education, the two women will have an opportunity to engage in a variety tasks of ministry at the church. Both will preach and be involved in worship.

They will assist in adult education, attend meetings and accompany the pastor on hospital and nursing home visits. They also will assist the pastor in leading the upcoming "A Course in Basic Christianity." The church's field education committee will meet with them bimonthly. Synergy Quintet to perform in Adams ADAMS The Synergy Quintet will perform at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 4.

A free-will offering will be taken. The chamber ensemble, started in 1996, performs a wide variety of music, ranging from the early Renaissance to rock. The quintet dedicates time to the education of young musicians and its members have held faculty positions at the Shenandoah Conservatory and its Arts Academy, and in the Maynard School System music department. Teens to report on mission trip DALTON First Congregational Church, 514 Main will hold a Youth Mission Sunday tomorrow. A group from the church went on a mission trip to Pipestem, W.Va., from Aug.

11-18, and rehabilitated a home of a low-income family. 1 Participating in the trip were adult advisors Donna Bishop, Betsy Rumplik, Keith Harrison and Peter Allen. Teenage participants were Christie Allen, David Bartels, Jessica Bishop, Jesse Clark, Liz Combs, Stephanie Combs, Lissa Crane, Fallyn Girard, Nick Mears and Burnel Smith. Liz Combs and Bishop will report on the trip at the chapel service at 8: 15 a.m. and Allen and Crane will speak at the sanctuary service at 10:15.

The trip was organized and led by the Rev. Richard Grobe, an ordained United Church of Christ minister on the staff of Asylum Hill Congregational Church, Hartford, and the founder of Serv-Corps, a nonprofit consulting agency that organizes mission-work trips for youth and adults. A story and slide presentation about the trip will be given tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the church's dining hall to thank the congregation for supporting the group's fund-raising events. Clown troupe to perform parable SHEFFIELD The Glory-Be Clown Troupe from Old Parish Church will perform the "Parable of the Clown Talents" on Sunday at the 10 a.m.
