This newspaper is not responsible for inaccuracies and departures from the published schedule.) TV Channel 34 College Graduate, 24, Grows Discouraged After Six Futile Quest for Job Dear Mary Haworth: My son Ray, 24, is a college graduate with a BBS degree, and his aim is to be a salesman. He has been seeking a job since he graduated last June, and although he has had numerous interviews, he located a job.

I cannot imagine why he fails. He is tall, goodlooking and serious-minded, and in college he was house director, at his fraternity. He was on the orientation committee and always active. He also worked after school, as an over-counter salesman, school bus driver, etc. He was liked in these jobs and was never discharged; when he changed jobs, it was for more money or to make more time for study.

The present situation worries me, as he is getting to be a recluse. He spends his evenings reading paperback novels and eating constantly. He is no longer assured in the company of his friends; seems to have lost self-confidence after so many rejections. He will say he interested in this or that seeming very enthusiastic when sent on the interview. Mother Asks How to Cope I cannot approach him as he resents suggestions from me.

I give him money he needs (not much), and keep his clothes in order and his surroundings as plesant as possible. My great fear is that he may have inherited some of his traits. His father today at 57 is still trying to carve a career, but never finding the job in which to start. He lives on a pension, and just enjoys a carefree existence without responsibility. Your suggestions will be gratefully received and enforced by me.

V. Y. Too Choosy Or Too Tense? Dear V. At first Ray may have been overly optimistic about his chances in the job field; may have expected to find himself in demand, wherever he bade for a place. When that assumption was quickly dispelled, in last perceptible decline in apprentice opportunities, perhaps he became unduly state of mind that almost invariably alienates its victim from the good he seeks.

Had Ray recognized the special hurdles confronting new talent last summer, he might have acted differently and fared better. For one thing, he might have unbent to take any honest work available for the time in his college of doggedly pursuing a preconceived idea of being a salesman. And for another thing, he might have seen the sense of getting in his hunt, instead of trying prematurely to demonstrate independent prowess in the business world. Needs Help Fore and Aft A sponsoring letter or introductory telephone call to a prospective employer, from a relative or fam ily friend in business, may tip the scales of chance in the favor, provided he (or she) has average competence. But untried plucky youth tends to scorn such aid at first; and later may be too proud to concede a lesson learned a need disclosed.

For advice: identify discouragement with his careless pace. Prolonged disappointment has made him afraid; and he needs deft leadership rather than accusatory nagging. Dig around quietly for job-openings for him; and when you have one in view, vigorously push him into action, in a brisk objective way that overrides gruff back-talk. M. H.

Monday in the Valley Mills Church of Christ, Minister Morris Moore officiating. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery. Her husband and three grandchildren survive. by Wilbur and Orville Wright. During secret, or half-secret, tests they flew an airplane which would carry a man and land him safely.

Before that time (just over a half century ago) a few others had made power-driven planes which carried ilots very briefly through the air, ut none of these seemed to be practical. The Wright brothers lived in Dayton, Ohio, and Orville was a native of the city. His older brother was a Hoosier by birth, with New Castle, as his birthplace. The two set up a bicycle shop in Dayton, and this became a small factory, as well as a center for repairs. News of the glider flights of Otto Lilienthal of Germany and Octave Chanute of the United States came to the Wrights, and their minds were fired with the idea of learning further secrets of aviation.

Chanute kindly helped them to build gliders, and some of these were tested at Kitty Hawk, N. where winds and ground were excellent for the purpose. A gasoline motor was fitted to a glider, and on a December day they carried out four successful flights. The first flight was made by 32-year-old Orville, and lasted 12 seconds. The fourth flight was made by Wilbur Wright, then 36 years of age.

It lasted 59 seconds, and covered one-sixth of a mile. Think of the difference between a speed of one-sixth of a mile a minute and the speeds made by rocket planes the past 22 to 25 miles a minute! Let the slow speed do nothing, however, to lower the glory of the Wrights! They were pioneers. Less than five years later they gave exhibitions in both Europe and the public. A Wright biplane was taken to France, and was launched from a tower. Wilbur Wright piloted that Karo Waco, 3 Monday, January 18, 1954 plane while it made a flight lasting one hour and 31 minutes.

More people have been moving in the last few years than in any other period in oar history illi peop le will move this year America Is on the move! Families are moving to better homes in the same area from one section of the country to another. City people are shifting to the suburbs. And with Americans living longer these days, more and more elderly couples are moving to homes better suited to retirement living. As new plants, factories, mills and office buildings go as old ones are expanded and create new jobs and attract workers from many parts of the country. In qdditiwto, the life insurance companies are helping build new homes. At the end of 1953, they had invested over $23 billion in real estate and one half times as much as they had invested in 1945. And a portion of the funds needed to build housing developments and rental dwellings has come from life insurance companies. These are among the ways in which the life insurance companies promote the welfare of our communities while guarding the security of our individual families.
