YANVOORHIS, BelleVernon, Pa. Secretary. WA ff1 TOiWr JboS LAND'S Kaiii'oati Notes. The railroad station at Lock No. 3 will be directly back of the lock.

The Navigation Company gave the railroad, besides a free right of way through their ground, a lot with a front of SO feet for a station. The Jlero.ld still thinks the station there should be named "Blaine, connecting the name of the distinguished Secretary of State with the local geography of the region where bis interests are so large. "Lock Number Three" is cumbrous, and common-place as the name of a town, -Blaine," is brief, and under the circumstances eminently appropriate. It would be a good name for a town, and for a postoliice, which will come in time. There is a curious slip on the rail-, road just above Frautz station.

The hill is slowly slipping, but instead of pushing the track to one side it raises it up. It has been lowered two or three times, and a total of several feet, but continues to swell up. E. Menk, a railroad contractor, arrived in the city on Saturday from Cleveland, coming over-land with teams and tools. He has taken the contract to grade a pait of the McK.

Died iu Forward. Died on the 21st, suddenly, at his residence on Gamble's Hill, Mr. John Gamble, in his 74th year. The funeral takes place from his late residence, Tuesday at interment at Round Hill. He was the son of 'Squire John Gamble, after whom Gamble's Hill and Post office were named, was born in West Newton, and at the age of three moved to the farm with his parents, where he has lived since, lie was a man of very correct habits, and of strong moral convictions For instance, he was opposed to the use of tobacco, and while generous hearted enough, would not willingly give a man light for pipe or segar.

On moral grounds he was an old school abolitionist, was a strong temperance advocate. was rigidly opposed to secret societies, and maintained all his opinions firmly. Without being -cranky" his adhesion to moral conviction was of the unyielding covenanter character. Mr. Gamble was a member of Round Hill Presbyterian church, where his father had" been an elder for over iiO years.

He was uncle to Doctor 11. J. Gamble of this city. He was unmarried; his brother Hiram and sister Mary survive him. both residents of the Homestead on the hill.

Sciid Your This plan of an applicant for a post oiiice sending his photograph to Washing) on instead of going in person is a capital idea. It saves'time and money and will often do the business more effectually, especially when the artist flatters the subject. But it will not do in case of Mail Agents. If Quill Yohe had sent his photograph on with that hair cut he would have been a goner, sure II. II.
