By the election of judicious and conservative men as officers the club has prospered steadily since organization, and at the present time there is not a club in that section of the city that is better and more widely known, Their membership list now numbers considerably over 125, and at every meeting there is always a big batch of new proposals up for action. The members are at present busily engaged, in arranging for a smoker, "A which is scheduled for Friday evening. At the meeting on Tuesday evening last Dr. C. G.

Yaeger tendered his resignation as secretary of the Premier Cycle Club, stating that his professional duties prevented him from giving the office the attention it should have. The resignation was accepted. Dr. Yaeger has held the office of secretary from the time the club first started and his many friends much regret that he has been compelled to relinquish it. He will still remain a member of the Board of Managers.

Miss Bessie Kaufmann was unanimously elected secretary in Dr. Yaeger's place, and judging from the great interest she takes in everyshe will fill the office admirably. thing pertaining to the a club there is no doubt William N. a visit last Wednesday and remained over to participate with the Diamond boys in the business men's parade, held Wednesday evening. After the parade had dismissed Mr. Phillippe amused the boys with some interesting facts about Great Gotham. The Kenilworth Wheelmen will give a dance next Wednesday evening. October 13, at Institute Hall.

This will be the inaugural dance of Kenilworth's social season. O. S. Bunnell, manager of Frank Starbuck, has offered to back Star against Michael in an unpaced race from five miles upward for $3,000, winner to take all. Dave Schaefer, Michael's manager, would not agree to make a contest.

He wants another twenty-fivemile paced race, but there is no probability of the racers coming together in a paced race again this year. The R. Mt. G. Cyclers were organized on Saturday evening.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: James Royer, president; Edward Mason, vice president; Edward D. Patterson, secretary; William L. Patterson, trasurer: Walter Moore. captain: H. J.

Green, first lieutenant: Chas. Kinderman, color-bearer. The club will have its first (chestnut) run to Fairville, on Sunday, leaving the club house at 7.30 A. M. sharp.

The committee in charge of the smoker, "A Quaker Night," to be given by the Quaker City Wheelmen on Friday evening, October 15. is working hard to get up a record-breaking programme. The list of first-class talent already secured assures a splendid entertainment. The committee consists of the following gentlemen: J. W.

Aschenbach, chairman; H. Leopold, J. S. Moyer and F. J.

Reeves. The Meteor Wheelmen had about twenty of their members out on their annual club century run to Atlantic City on Sunday. All survived and will be presented with a souvenir survivor's medal. First Lieutenant Brown had charge of the run in the absence of Captain Tripp. who was unable to attend on account of illness.

J. Frank Starbuck will race either fifteen or twenty miles against a relay of running horses, each covering a mile, at the Tioga track on Saturday, October 16. Starbuck will be paced by forty pacemakers. Practically the same machines will be used that paced him in his race with Michael at Willow Grove last Saturday. President Denny, of Welcome Wheelmen, has appointed an entertainment committee for 1897-98, composed of F.

W. Klier, chairman; W. J. Barry, William Klier, W. W.

Van Dyke, C. A. Starr and Samuel Denny. The Pennsylvania Bicycle Club has Cispensed with the initiation fee and now insists only on a quarter's dues in advance being paid to entitle an applicant for membership to undergo the vigilance of the membership committee. At a meeting of the Waverly Wheelmen, held on the 4th instant, it was unanimously resolved to condemn the leasing of the Philadelphia Gas Works to United Gas Improvement Company or anyone, and to use the club's influence to have the Councilmen of the ward vote for the defeat of the bill.

It was also resolved to use the club's influence on Councils to pass the bill compelling vehicles to carry lights after dark. Club run on Sunday is to Wilmington and return by boat. A ball is to be given at Musical Fund Hall November 19. 1. Hasser has been elected captain of the foot-ball team.

The club will give a masquerade party on Hallowe'en. The entertainment committee of the Pennsylvania Bicycle Club for the season of 1897-98 has been appointed by President MeKinstry, and consists of William A. Edsall, chairman: W. A. Barr, H.

This committee intends starting the season with a theatre benefit at the Chestnut Street Theatre on November 9, and commencing with the latter part of this month will adopt Saturday evening as club night, when a varied programme will be given. In addition to this they will have charge of the tri-weekly dances and progressive euchres. with incidentally a smoker or some other form of entertainment.

The semi-century of the Ide Wheelmen, on Sunday, October 17, is expected to be the largest run of the season. The committee has received entries from several clubs throughout the city. Captains of one or two clubs intend to enter two squade of fifty men each, thereby obtaining a loving cup for each fifty members entered. As there are two styles to select from, this will enable the clubs to obtain a pair or two distinct prizes. Each club will set its own pace, and unattached riders can tack on or go it alone.

The start may be made at any time after 6 A. ride to Andorra Nurseries before dinner, home for dinner and ride to Essington and return before sunset. Handsome medals will be given to all survivors who finish by 10 P. M. The Puncture Club is a newly-organized eyeling club, with headquarters at 1427 Porter street.

The following officers have been elected for the ensuing year: Captaln, John Edward Kestler; lieutenant, Otis Egan; treasurer, Egan; secretary, Charles Van Zandt: color-bearer, M.
