Proceeds from the auction will be used to help construct libraries in areas not now served by their own buildings.

The "tunMthe-centuryM no longer seems the" remote point of time in the future it once was. For today's school aged children, many of whom will be raising families of their own in and about the year 2000, that moment in time is even more a reality. They are deeply interested in what type of world they win inherit At Union Middle School, a group of accelerated seventh grade students expressed that interest by doing school yard clean-ups, giving informative class presentations; drawing up detailed posters, maps, and models; designing and constructing bird houses; sampling natural foods, and putting together an "energy and ecology" handbook. One student, Jason Jones, used functioning solar cells to light a model solar home. There was even a "Happy Birthday Earth" birthday cake, and each of the 65 participating students and their advisor Lois Jones were given a sttce.

They decided to forego putting candles on it, however. There Just wasn't room enough for the four to five billion it would have required. Dr. Earl Pullias, a clinical psychologist, used to tell us that one of the things that poisons life is crowdedness. He said, "Strive to put some space around your life, both physical and psychological." Take time to do things read, walk, play "break out of the circle." I'm not sure if the "time out" effect in a well structured activity program is more important than the specific physical benefits.

We all need time to "Get away from it all." Stress and lack of private rejuvenation time can kill as surely as smoking, poor nutrition, and other more obvious detrimental lifestyle practices. In conclusion, the best of our research and testing tells us our bodies, our performances, keep improving to about 25 years of age. Then we begin to go downhill. Essentially, from that point in life, we have to work for fitness because it doesn't come naturally. Our physical performance gets progressively lower throughout life, right up until we are locked into a nursing home, if something else hasn't gotten to us first.

Physical deterioration, the opposite of physical fitness, afflicts millions of people. By Dr. Dale Nelson, Professor Health, Physical Education and Recreation Utah State University The ability to carry out daily tasks with vigor and alterness, to engage in leisure pursuits and to meet the above-average stresses encountered in emergency situations is a pretty good assessment of physical fitness. But life is full of distractions that limit our capacity to achieve this modest level of fitness. Let's deal with a few of the less obvious distractions from physical fitness.

Have you ever noticed when your personal space has been invaded you are likely to react with discomfort, anxiety, irritation and, at times, even with anger and aggression? Privacy, regularly obtained, is necessary for us to carry out self-understanding, self-identity and to take stock of things. Modern living, with all its demands, doesn't always permit this. Noise, cramped space and constantly dealing with people seems to be the order of the day, but everyone needs "private" time to think and to do. Constant "hassling" takes its toll. Good Advice One of my old IISC professors, Enjoy a vacation for two while helping the Salt Lake County Library System build much needed libraries in the community by attending a vacation auction at the Whitmore Library, 2197 E.

7000 on Monday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Resorts and hotels from across the nation, Puerto Rico and Mexico have donated 47 vacations which will be auctioned off to the highest bidders by a professional auctioneer. Promotional materials from donating establishments will be available for inspection the day of the auction. All bids must be made in person by individuals 18 years of age or older. Payment for vacations $100 or less must be paid in full the evening of the auction by check or bank card.
