Page 8 Section 1 The Canyon Sunday News Sunday, February 25,1979 Women's week set on campus Plans are underway for week at West Texas State University to be April 22 through 26. Sponsored by the Association for Women Students, the week is designated to honor the women at WTSU. The activities will begin Monday with a program by Warren Farrell on Liberated which is also the title of the book he wrote. On Tuesday and Wednes- day there will be a style show to help women decide how to dress for different occasions and an exhibition faculty basketball game. The highlight of the week will be woman of the Year Banquet.

The WTSU woman of the Year will be named and the Ruth Cross scholarship will be awarded. Bili Hudson, Winters junior, will present the entertainment for the banquet. The classes will be on Thursday evenings in fellowship hall at the First United Methodist Church.

Asked about the name Cecelia, she explained that it is an because her own name is hard for Americans to pronounce or remember. A famous singer and music conductor in her homeland, Professor Wang Chung-chih, has adopted the name Cecelia in America and hopes to pass along the culture of her country through cooking classes and other programs. She has participated in singing and fashion shows for at West Texas State University the past two years. She is planning a similar cultural program to be held soon at Bonham Junior High School where her daughter, Mary, 13, is a student. Her husband, a medical doctor, is practicing medicine in New Jersey presently and taking examinations to qualify for a license to practice in Texas.

He has already successfully completed two of the three required tests, according to his wife. She was born and raised at Mukden in Manchuria and fled from there with her husband and eldest son because of the Communist take over. The second son was born in Taiwan and their daughter was born in Libya. The sons are both graduates of Texas A University with degrees in engineering. One son resides in Amarillo where he is a petroleum engineer and the other son is a mechanical engineer at Dumas.

At the age of 12, she first began the study of music conducting and graduated in 1946 from Changchun Girls Normal College qualified to teach vocal music and chorus conducting. She taught for a number of years- For service to her country in the field of music, she was awarded a gold medal and two special certificates by the minister of education following concerts involving up to 20,000 persons in performances. 23 59 29 Double ring ceremonies were read at 3 Saturday afternoon for Miss Patricia Ann Blevins and Alvin Ralph Mardis at the home of the parents, 400 Holman Lane, with Rev. Jim Hancock, pastor of First Baptist Church in Canyon, officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard F.

Blevins. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1977 and is employed by American Quarterhorse Association in Amarillo. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mardis of 1709 Creekmere are parents of the bridegroom.

He attended Canyon schools and Blinn College at Bryan and is presently attending Texas State Technical Institute in Amarillo. An arch holding seven blue candles decorated the nuptial service area. Ringbearer was Scott Blevins who wore a blue suit with yellow boutonniere and carried the wedding rings on a white heart shaped pillow. Mary Torres of Lawton, Oklahoma was maid of honor and bridesmatron was Mrs.

Jeannie Storm. They wore floor length gowns of yellow with blue and had bouquets of blue carnations with yellow baby roses. Alan Mardis was best man and Ray Blevins was groomsman. They wore blue suits with yellow boutonnieres. Escorted and presented in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal length wedding gown of acetate taffeta with a stand-up collar and ruffle trimmed yokes of Venice lace.

The empire bodice was lace trimmed and the long sleeves were illusion with lace cuffs. Her chapel length wedding veil was Venice lace with seed pearl trim and the bridal bouquet was white orchids with yellow roses. A reception for the newlyweds followed in the home of the parents. The couple will be establishing their home at 1903 Gregory, No. 3, in Amarillo.

Mrs. Alvin Ralph Mardis nee Patricia Ann Blevins Medical program set by club Prayer day planned World Day of Prayer, sponsored by Church Women United, will be held Friday morning starting at 10 a.m. at St. Church, 38th Street and Conner Drive, Canyon. The service is for all women of the community and is a nondenominational service held in different church sanctuaries each year at this time.

Objective of the program is to gather women from the various churches together for sharing of experiences and joint prayers for world peace, understanding, justice and reconciliation. Sue Hite Study Club will meet Monday at 4 p.m. at the home of Alta Smith, 501 Taylor Lane. The program titled has been scheduled by Jewell Hill and will be presented by representatives from the Kidney Foundation Amarillo. in Marriage vows read locally Marriage vows were exchanged by Phyllis C.

Maynard and Richard L. Weiss Friday evening at Joseph A. Hill Chapel on the campus of West Texas State University. Rev. Weldon Miller officiated at the marriage service which was followed with a reception at the Hilton Inn in Amarillo.
