He as coher Soviet Troops Preparing to Leave Austria Most of the activity at the polls tomorrow in Canonsbui will be among Democratic ranks, where voters in most instance will have a choice of candidates. There is a large slate of Democratic candidates running ft office in Canonsburg and Houston Boroughs and in North Stri bane, Cecil and Chartiers Townships. The latter two townshi have not a single Republican candidate listed on the ballots. Republicans, however, w'll hold the spotlight in Pete Township, where only two Democratic contests will be staged. Canonsburg and Houston's biggest fights will be for the fices of Council, School Director and Constable.

In North Strabane, Cecil, Chartiers and Peters Townshi competition will be most keen for the office of Supervisor, Scho Director and Constable. A list of candidates for the two parties follows: MRS. CLEMENT ATTLEE, wife of the British Labor Party leader, ix shown at the wheel of their car as she drove her husband through the country on his election campaign assignments. She is helping him in his efforts to win control from the Conservatives in the British Isles national election on May 26. British Prime Minister Anthony JJden is leading the Conservatives.

Polio Vaccine To Be Given To Most Susceptible Group McNuif is Constable Candidate in Houston William McNutt, Republican, is running on slickers and write-ins for the office of Constable in Houston. McNutt has been chief of police in the Houston borough for 20 years and has been a constable for 21 years, lie is a lifetime resident of Houston, residing at 125 E. Pike St. ed with third degree burns. Mrs.

Devitis, who was a passen-p-r in the car operated by her husband, was reported to be in fairlv good condition at Washing ton Hospital. She was reported to be suffering from lacerations of both knees and the chin, contusions and abrasions of the chest, arms and legs, and shock. Albert J. Almasy, 23. 16 Payne Ph.

re. operator of the other car, was released from the hospital alter treatment. State Police report Almasy's machine crossed the divisor as Almasy was traveling south. It spun around into the path of Devitis' machine which was traveling north. Devitis' convertible collided with the rear of the sedan driven by Almasy and Devitis was thrown out of the car.

Almasy's auto turned over and burst into flames, the searing, spreading fire covering the body of Devitis. He was an employe of Pennsylvania Transformer Co. Almasy told State Police investigating officers. Pfc. James J.

Polieicchio and Pvt. Thomas A. retro, that he felt the heat of the burning gasoline while in the overturned machine and kicked out the front windshield to free himself. Washington Fire Department rushed to the scene and used the panel truck as an ambulance to remove Devitis to the hospital. The pumper truck stayed at the scene to put out the fire in Almasy's auto.

The firmen removed a pumper from the panel truck to place Devitis on a stretcher in the lied of the truck. DeVitis was born August 31, 1918. in Canonsburg. He was employed in the shipping department of the Pennsylvania Transformer Company. lie was a member of the Electrical Workers Union.

During World War I he served in the Army, and was a member of the 108th Hospital Unit, formerly of Canonsburg. He was educated in the Canonsburg schools. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Novich, De Vitis, who is still in the Washington Hospital with injuries and burns received in the same accident; two children, Charles and Darwin, at home; his mother, Mrs. Mamie Turn to Page 8, Number 3 Severine Candidate For School Director Kelly Severine, 344 Park Drive, is a Democratic candidate for the nomination of school director.

A lifelong resident of Canonsburg, Severine is a veteran of World War II, having served 3S in the European 3 tm. i Pa. Transformer '1 Co. and is a member of the United Steel Workers of America, Local Union 3968, and VFW Post 191. Severine A son of Mr.

Dorchak, Rob Frank Dichak Veteran Merchant, I Dies Unexpectedly I Frank Dichak 70, of 600 Duquesne well known vet eran local merchant, died Friday at 10 p.m. at the local hospital shortly after being admitted.

His death was Mr. Dichak was born January 15. 1885 in Czechoslovakia, a son of the late Joseph and Susan Dichak. He had lived in Canonsburg for 44 years and had operated a grocery store and meat market on Duquesne Ave. for about 40 of those years.

He was a member of St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Moose. Elks and the German Beneficial Union.

Surviving are wile. Mary Churney Dichak. and the following children: John Recicar, Steve Di- tchak, Frank Dichak Albert I Dichak. and Mary, wife of Ati- I'nony Chermcr. all of Canonsburg; Irene, wife of Palmer, Fort Wayne, Helen, wife of Donald Mountford, Allison Plan; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, and one brother, Andrew Dichak, in Europe.

Friends are being received at the Yoney Funeral Home, E. Pike where services will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. followed by F.cquiem High Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's R.

C. Church in charge of the Rev. Paul Simko. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Three Hospitalized For Accident Hurts Three persons were detained at Canonsburg General Hospital over the weekend and another treated as a result of two accidents which occurred on Route 19 over the weekend. Admitted to the Canonsburg General Hospital were George and Mary Richter, and their stepson, Timothy Blackburn, of Cochranton RD 3, who were injured in an accident Saturday at 11 p.m. on Route 19, near Donaldson Crossroads. Richter suffered laceration of the scalp and will undergo an X-ray today. Mrs.

Richter had 35 stitches taken to close cuts of the scalp and wrist. The Richter machine collided with a sedan driven by Stephen Manko, Canonsburg, RD 3. The Richters were en route to Houston to visit relatives. All three are in fair condition today. Mary Helen Arlof, 3, was a passenger in a machine driven by her father, Michael Arlof, Pittsburgh, which was involved in an accident last night at 7:40 p.m., six miles north of Washington on Route 19.

She was treated at the Canonsburg Hospital for lacerations of the chin. The Arlof vehicle collided with one driven by Barbara Ann Ashton, of Pittsburgh. Damages amounted to $600. Louis Turko Constable Candidate in N. Strabane Louis Turko, 37, lifelong resident of Strabane, is a Democratic candidate for the nomination of constable in North Strabane Township.

A veteran of World War II. Turko is married and has two children. If elected, he said he promises to patrol the streets for children's safety and make township a credit to its people. Two Former Residents Killed in Accident Two former residents of Canonsburg were killed in an automobile accident at Midwest City, Oklahoma, Friday night, it was reported. The victims, Mr.

She has been most active in political circles for years. Mrs.

O'Brien organized the Women's Democratic Club in Houston and is serving iier second term as president. She has served two terms as committee chair-lady and has been active in many civic projects, such as the campaigns of Red Cross, Infantile Paralysis, Boy Scouts, and Crippled Children. In the fraternal field, she has served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 253 in 1948-49, and is presently treasurer; member of Salon 1058 et 40; past president and present trustee of the Pvt. Prince, 007 Park was arrested over the weekend on a charge of failing to stop and reveal his identity after his auto a parked car on S. Central police reported. Officers said Prince's car struck one owned by Patrick Matrogram, 202 Smitbficld damaging it. in the left rear lender, bumper, door and gas cap. Thomas. Ignatz Tomsic Candidate For Road Supervisor Ignatz Tomsic is seeking the nomination of road supervisor on the Democratic ballot in North Strabane Township. Tomsic is veteran supervisor in the township, and his tenure has seen many road improvements, installation of street lights and fire plugs, and with the aid of WPA, installation of a sewage system in Strabane and Weaver-town. A resident of Strabane for 50 years, Tomsic is a charter member of SNPJ Lodge 138 and the American Fraternal Union No. 149.

He is also a member of the Canonsburg Moose-. He was a former director of the Slovenian Savings and Loan Association and the Alexander Co-operative Store. Miles Constable Candidate in Houston Leslie Hay Miles is running on the Republican ticket for constable on write-ins and stickers in Houston. Miles, a former police officer in the borough of Houston, has been a resident there for nine years, lie is a member of the American Legion of Washington and has been a life guard at various swimming pools in the district. He formerly worked at the Fort Pitt Bridge Works.

Married and the father of three children, he and his family reside at 27 N. Main Houston. To Get Fire Street Lights the road supervisors also revealed that the township is completely out of debt. The township had been operating in the red for more than 20 years. As late as 1952, it had a debt of $13,841.64.

In the past two years, however, the debt has been wiped away with a balance at the start of this year standing at $13,855.29. The present road a in the township is 8 mills, one of the lowest in the county. The road supervisors arc Ignatz Tomsic, Michael Helay, and Wallace Bails. D. S.

WASHINGTON UP) President Eisenhower today approved a voluntary plan esigned to assure Tair allocation the Salk polio vaccine. The plan would be effective following completion of the current program of immunization being conducted by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis for first and second grade school children. The report prepared by Welfare Secretary Oveta Culp Hobby and experts of the Public Health Service recommended that "for the time being" the vaccine should' be administered only children of the most susceptible) age group, 5 through 9 years old.

Once the federal voluntary program goes into effect, Mrs. Hobby will direct division and allocation among states of the entire output of the vaccine on the basis of the 5 through 9 population in each state. Shortage Continues "There will be a shortage of 'he vaccine for several months," Mrs. Hobby said as her plan was announced at the White House. She said only a voluntary pla.i of priorities and distribution could be mobilized "fast enonugh" to be effective during this temporary period of shortage.

J. van Heuven Goedhart, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The 1954 award, the first under the General Assembly's resolution establishing the Nansen Medal, was made to Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He is 34 years old and has been a resident of Canonsburg for 29 years. Abraham attended Canonsburg High School and bad completed three years at Waynesburg College on a wrestling scholarship before entering the U. S.

Abraham was director of the Canonsburg swimming pool for the past five years. He worked at the Canonsburg Steel and Iron Co. before entering service. He is married to the former Marion Zacour and the father of three daughters, Joyce, Donna, 3, and Debbie, 2.

He holds membership in the following organizations: Moose, Elks, American Legion. Canonsburg Syrian Social Club, Washington County Coaches Canons'jurg" Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Washington County Education National Education Pennsylvania State Education and the American Wrestling Coaches and Officials Assoc.
