C8 The Berkshire Eagle, Tuesday, January 23, 1990 Sports Cahalan rolls 279 to tie national bowling record Pete Snyder Tenpin Highlights Bob Taraskiewicz and Tom Cahalan shared honors in the city, with Trax pacing three leagues and Cahalan tying an all-time PBA record. In midweek encounters, Taraskiewicz rolled singles of 257-252-192 for 701 and, along with Steve-Hillebrand's 685 and Al Holmes' 602, gave Bob's Automotive a leading 20-7 mark. Also sharp here were Mike March at 613 and Mike Wisnowski at 607. In Tosk Chiropractics Classic doings, it was a fancy 699-277 effort by Trax that, helped Arch Appliance tie Memories Inc. for top berth.

Tom Szpila, 634, and Vic Bertolozzi, 624, followed. In Beloit-Brooke Memorial play, the strong righty was the entire show, hitting 662. Cahalan, owner of a 134 average, raised Commercial league eyebrows, and, after the smoke had cleared on lanes 43-44, a total of 689 pins had been laid to rest. Included was a middle 279 game that was 145 pins over his average. It tied an all-time PBA mark held by Dick Kowalczyk, who rolled 287 in 1977, 145 over his 142 mark.

Dave Batanglo, 648, also performed well. Anello Roofing Siding has control of first place. Speaking of pins over, Rick Jarvis, carrying a 157 in the Pitts-field Junior circuit, uncorked a 279 game, going 122 pins over average. His triple read 636. In the runner-up slot in the Saturday morning loop was Keith Jarvis with good 613-235 totals Don "Hulk" Hover showed solid 688-255 numbers to spark OME sessions.
