By Tim Trimble Extension Agent HORSE PROJECT GROUP The second meeting of the 4-H Horse Project Group but first meeting for the New Year was held Jan. 22 at the Youth Exposition Building with 50 4-H members and parents attending. A very enthusiastic crowd listened to local terse trainer R.D. Jenkins from Rockdale, present a live demonstration on horse grooming and general horse care. Mr.

Jenkins demonstrated mane and tall care, hoof care and trimming while discussing many important factors in horse care. After the demonstration Jenkins also answered many questions from the group. Agent Tim Trimble followed Jenkins with a short demonstration on tack and saddle care. Trimble discussed different types of saddles and tack and what to look for when purchasing horse equipment. Also discussed was leather preservatives and uses of the preservatives.

The Horse Project Group was held at the Youth Exposition Bui- Iding in Cameron. The next meeting is tentatively set for Feb. 19 with the program to be announced at a later date. in the judging teams but can not make the practice Feb. 2.

JUDGING PRACTICE A 4-H judging practice will be held at the County Extension Office in Camerwi, Saturday, Feb. 2, according to the following schedule: Horse Judging practice from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and Livestock Judging and dairy judging from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Jake Jenkins son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Jenkins of Minerva will be in the scramble Sunday, Feb. 17.

Jenkins will participate in the Sunday matinee performance at 2 p.m. The calf scramble will take place during each rodeo performance at San Antonio excluding the first Friday afternoon and first Saturday morning performances. There will be 14 go-rounds with 20 contestants competing in each go-round These contestants are selected from 4 and FFA mem bers by agents and supervisors. Ten calves will be placed into the arena in each go-round and the 20 youngsters in the arena will start at a designated place In the arena with each having a halter with 10 foot rope attached, to lead calves. The 20contestants will all be chasing after the calves in the arena at the same time After all ten calves have been caught, haltered, and then lead to a designated place, each of the ants that caught a calf in that go- round are awarded a purchase certificate for the purchase of a livestock project.

Purchase certificates are prorated according to the place that the contestant came in when catching and leading the calve to the designated spot in the arena. Milam Area Obituaries Lesovsky LOUISIANA Gardin F. Lesovsky, 75, of New Orleans, formerly of Cameron, died Jan 30 in a San Antonio hospital. Mr. Lesovsky willed his body to the Tulane University Medical School.

Mr. Lesovsky served 35 years in the U.S. Marines. Surviving are his wife. Minnie lesovsky, of New Orleans, LA.
