In girls' and boys' track action today, Pittsfield High hosts Mount Greylock and Lenox at the Taconic track, Wahconah is at Hoosac Valley and Monument Mountain at Drury.

The Mount Anthony boys clinched at least a tie for their second straight league title with yesterday's win. The loser of today's PHS-Greylock meet will be out of the running, and Greylock has to take on the Patriots in Tuesday's league finale. The PHS girls could clinch a tie for their league title with a win today, Taconic girls win BENNINGTON, Vt. Senior co-captain Volastro charged to a 20-point afternoon with victories in the 100 and 300 hurdles and the long jump and triple jump, and junior Becky Reed came from behind to earn an important second place in the as the Braves overcame the Patriots. Taconic was behind for much of the meet and trailed 38-30 at one point.

But a sweep in the high jump by juniors Sarah Connor, Jane Adams and Reed put the Braves in front for good at 55-49, and the visi SALES SERVICE PARTS ACCESSORIES LEASING 694 East St. 443 6431 twir YIOTOnS COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS 530 Berkshire, ss. Taconic's Dana Ross had another big day, pulling in 16 points with two victories and two seconds, but it wasn't nearly enough to stand in the way of another Mount Anthony victory. Mount Anthony's Dennis Mailhot won the 100-meter, javelin and long jump and anchored the winning 400 relay as the Patriots rolled along by capturing 14 of 17 events, sweeping both the javelin and 800-meter. "It was surprisingly easy," Mount Anthony coach Steve Zemaniak said. "We're running on pride now. We're 7-0 now, and we knew we had to get by them.

Now, hopefully we'll get by Mount Greylock Tuesday and we'll be all set." Mike Andrews was another top performer yesterday for Mount Anthony, winning the 200 and 400 and leading off the winning 400 relay. Teammate Bob Hoar won both the 800 and triple jump, and ran a leg on the 400 relay. The loss overshadowed another shining performance by Ross, who continued his masterful work in the discus with a toss of 124 feet, 3 inches that won the event by over nine feet. He also won the 100 hurdles and took second in the 200 and 400. Taconic's only other winner was Pat Reed in the 1,600.

The outcome was still in doubt going into the two-mile. Reed charged from 10 yards behind in the last lap of the race, passing Mount Anthony's Maggie Donovan to earn an inspiring three points. "She had a better kick than Donovan and beat her by two seconds," Taconic coach Joe Racicot said. "She just outkicked her at the end. It was like Becky saw a mouse." Double winners for Taconic included Amy Kreiger in the 100-meter and 200-meter and Giselle Vagnini in the discus and javelin.

Vagnini, who also took a second in the shot put, had never thrown a javelin in competition before yesterday, Racicot said. Her toss of 89 feet, 6 inches won by an eye-popping 15 feet. Connor and Adams both hit 4-feet-10 in the high jump to post Western Mass. qualifying standards. Chris Lundy was Mount Anthony's standout with victories in the 1,600 and 400, plus a leg on the winning 1,600 relay.
