They are entitled to the same benefits as other veterans. At last count two years ago, more than 152,000 women veterans had availed themselves of the post-Korean GI Bill, nearly 80 percent of them to attend college. At that time, there were 23,760 women vets receiving compensation payments from the Veterans Administration for service-connected disabilities and 11,782 receiving VA pensions (based on total disability and financial need). Some women may be veterans without knowing it.

About 25 percent of the Army Auxiliary Corps chose to remain civilians when the Army Corps was set up in 1943. However, a few years ago Congress gave the former WAACs veteran status, just like WACs. To establish their eligibility, they must first apply to the Army for an honorable discharge. TURNING A MORTGAGE CASH If you have financed or are considering financing the sale of your home, then you may be interested in a new financial program which allows you to turn that mortgage into cash. In the current high-interest- rate market, may home sellers are willing to provide financing on the home they sell by lending on a mortgage. The Federal National Mortgage Association-commonly called Fannie Mae-has a new program whereby it will purchase first mortgages from persons who sold and financed their own homes. To qualify, a loan must have been made on Fannie Mae standard documents, meet Fannie Mae credit and appraisal standards and be serviced by an approved lender. The cash amount, however, received from Fannie Mae is likely to be less than the face amount of the mortgage.

For details, check with a lender approved by the Federal National Mortgage Association. REAL VERSUS PERSONAL PROPERTY If you are buying or selling a home, be certain you understand the difference between real and personal property. Real property includes the land and everthing affixed to It -buildings, plants, fences and so forth. Inside the home, permanent fixtures such as lights, built-in kitchen appliances and the hot water heater are considered real property. Personal property includes all other items But sometimes the definitions are not so clear cut.

For instances, curtains are sometimes considered personal property but can be included in the sale of real property. Any items of personal property you want to include or exclude from the sale can be written into the contract. Before sellingyour home, have a clear agreement with the pur- Leoth Protests Selling Of Corn By Government Congressman Marvin Leath of Texas has written the Secretary of Agriculture, John Block, protesting the sale by the Commodity Credit Corporation of com in the Texas High Plains area at 25(i to 50(i below the market price. Also signing the letter were Congressmen KentHance, Charles Stenholm, Sam Hall, and Bill Patman, all of Texas; Joe Skeen, New Mexico; Wes Watkins, Oklahoma; and Bill Dickinson, Alabama. Following is the text of the letter: It has been brought to our attention that the Commodity Credit Corporation is selling, in the Texas High Plains area, grain purchased in several of the northern com belt states after the January, 1980 grain embargo.

When the United States Department of Agriculture implemented the Soviet Grain Emgargo, U.S. farmers were promised; 1) no corn would be sold on the domes tic market for less than of the loan rate; 2) except (or gasohol production it would be sold at the reserve release price; and 3) exports to poor countries would be increased to alleviate hunger, and to provide a market for the grain. Today, however, the CCC is selling this grain from 25(i to 50p below the market at $3.30 per bushel at a rate of 100,000 bushels per week. With the capability to maintain this volume of sale for at least 100 weeks the devastating effect on the already depressed market is obvious. This is causing severe financial reverses for the farming community and, worse, represents a direct reversal of previous agricultural policy, upon which the American farmers have depended and trusted.

This policy has left many unanswered questions in the minds of grain producers. One concern is, not only the effect this is having on the Texas farmer, but the entire agricultural community. The USDA decision to release this grain on the domestic market in direct competition with our own farmers is a travesty to that very group whose interests should be well-served by USDA. If so, you need to give serious thought to the benefits you expect to receive from the venture.

Some people acquire older rental property because they need a cash income each mtxith to help supplement their other income sources Others buy a motel or (arm because it is a source of employment for their fEimlly members. Still other investors buy unimproved land because of Its appreciation potential as a hedge against inflation. People with substantial incomes from other sources may be most interested in ties which have tax shelter advantages. such as office buildings or apartment complexes. Since each individual has unique investment circumstimces and needs, considerable thought should be given to selecting the appropriate type of real estate for acquisition IS A CONDO IN YOUR FUTURE? Condominium ownership is not for everyone But for some, it offers a pleasant alternative to apartment rental or ownership of a detached home.

In a condominium ownership arrangement, you own a dwelling unit and also a share of the common area, such as walkways and interior streets. You own a share of the swimming pool, tennis courts and other recreational facilities. Condominium owners en joy the gains of property appreciation upon resale. They also qualify for income tax deductions for interest and property taxes. A condominium owner, however, is responsible for the maintenEuice of the dwelling unit, plus a share of the common area malntentmce costs.

Before you purchase a condominium, look at several units and talk with a real estate professional. TEXAS HOMES GETTING SMALLER If you have been in the home- buying market several years, you may have not Iced houses fiffe getting smaller The average size of a Texas home built in 1978 was 1,600 square feet. Tbis compares to almost 1,700 square feet in 1974. As building costs and utility expenses rise and the average household size continues to decline, the size of houses will likely decline further. This reduction, however, may not mean less space for each person in the household.

In 1976, there were almost three persons per Texas household. In 1990, this will decline to about 2.5 persons. What this means is that the size of houses could decline even further--say to 1,400 square feet--without decreasing the average space per person in the year 1990.
