YWCA: Movement of Forccy Vitality NOTE: This story was prepared by the Hanover YWCA as part of the local publicity campaign for the United Fund drive. The YWCA is one of numerous UF agencies sharing in money collected through community solicitation. The Young Christian Association is more than an organization. Daringly more. It is a movement of worldwide force and vitality.

Fighting for justice, peace and interests of women. And it fights fiercely. In its own dynamic way, it practices patience which can only come from a strong belief in the barrier-breaking love of God. The most significant contribution each girl and woman can make in world is to open herself to Trial Of Kiser Gets Approval A York County Court- appointed sanity commission has found Earl M. Kiser, 48, Glen Rock R.D.

1, capable of standing trial on a Sept. 25 indictment for murder and manslaughter in the July 4 shotgun slaying of a 26-year- old neighbor, Terry L. Ream, while mowing his lawn. The report to Judge Albert G. Blakey III by Drs.

Gribbin Jr. states that Kiser aware of the nature of the charges against him and is capable of cooperating satisfactorily with his defense It concludes that his mental status permits him to stand trial for the charges against The psychiatric evaluation is anxiety neurosis with associated episodic pathological intoxication due to alcohol In the tropics, termite nest may tower 20 feet and house 3 million workers and soldiers.

maximum potential; to become and be a productive individual responsive to the needs of others as well as her own. To fulfill all that she can be, each girl and woman needs the time, the place, and the means. She must be encouraged to grow, to apply herself in new ways, to contribute fully as a student, citizen, worker, consumer, wife, mother and leader. The Hanover YWCA does give girls and women a place and time and the means for involvement, for relaxation and fun, for making new friends and ways in which to serve their community. Any girl 12 or over can join the YWCA either to participate in our programs, serve as a leader, further the purpose and or support its program.

Members, 17 years old and over, have voting privileges which give guidance on matters of major policy and program. Boys of 12 years and over and men, participating in program, are called YWCA Associates. And so, young girls, teens, students, young adults, young wives and their husbands and children, career women, and mature women can participate in and benefit from health education, programs, clubs, hobby and interest groups, classes, public affairs courses, discussions, trips, counseling, residence, coed activities, volunteer service opportunities and special community projects. High priority program areas include upgrading education, mitigating social isolation, promoting racial integration, and involvement in public affairs. Other issues and problems of vital concern to the organization include work and leisure, health (physical, mental and social well-being), world responsibility, living standards, human rights, public welfare and social security, better environment, basic individual rights and liberties, equality of treatment of individuals and social justice.

Support of the United Community Services of York County is a vital factor in continued YWCA services to the community of Hanover. DR. LAMB: You And Your Health Dear Dr. Lamb First, I want you to know I read your column every day and miss it unless I had to. So giving you roses while you live.

I am a woman 65 years old and have all the old age pains but try to understand that we are going to have them too. My trouble is a hiatus hernia which I have had for many years. The doctor says there is nothing he can do (no surgery), that. just have to live with it. I take antacids all the time and hurt an awful lot.

My doctor says what you and take I sleep with my bed on blocks and elevated high in order to sleep. Can you tell me what causes these hernias and am I doing ail I can do for comfort. I have to leave off so many things that I would love to eat. If I could have surgery be willmg to go through that if it would hold and do any good. I wish tell me what to do if you have any other answers.

Do most of these hernias become cancerous? Dear Reader Hiatal hernias are faily common, particularly as a person grows older. Basically, what happens is that the hole in the disphragm where the Dr. LAWRENCE LAMB esophagus passes through to join the stomach is too large, and it allows a portion of the stomach to slip through the diaphragm into the chest. The normal closure mechanism that closes the stomach opening is faulty, and the acid contents are squirted back into the lower part of the esophagus causing burning and pain. Keeping your bed elevated is important.

Lying flat at any time should be avoided to prevent the stomach contents from running back into the esophagus. You should avoid bending over to pull weeds, bending over to tie your shoes, pick clothes, or any head down positions. A second way to help prevent difficulties is not to overeat and preferably to have the stomach empty before lie down. This means eating numerous small meals, perhaps five or six a day and avoiding any large meals. It takes at least an hour for the stomach to empty so you eat anything for at least an hour and preferably two or three hours, before lying down.

Fatty foods are retained by the stomach longer. Thus if you have a fatty meal, it should be in the middle of the day to allow four or five hours to allow the stomach to completely empty before lying down. Cold foods, such as ice cream, tend to stay in the stomach longer and delay the stomach emptying. In addition to antacids you should avoid coffee, colas, teas and any drinks or beverages which increase acid pepsin juice by the stomach. This includes avoiding alcohol.

You should also avoid smoking cigarettes. Eliminating abdominal obesity will also help decrease the pressure in the abdomen that aggravates the hernia. Girdles and tight belts are not allowed! Operations are possible but they are only indicated in a small number of patients with these problems when there are important complications that need correction. And hiatal hernias cause cancer. question appeared in the paper just after I had washed the fringe on the umbrella over my patio table. I closed the umbrella and attached the garden hose so it was ready for rinsing. A scrub bucket was filled with hot water to which I added some detergent and a household cleanser that contained ammonia. I used a sponge but would have preferred a soft bristle scrubbing brush had I had one. The bucket was placed on the table under the fringed area I was working on and I scrubbed it in sections all around the umbrella.

It was then hosed down and, after it had dripped awhile, I opened the umbrella and repeated the same procedure on the inside. It was carefully closed and I cleaned in and out of the folds and then sprinkled it down. I opened it and, while standing on a bench, was able to clean the inside of the umbrella, course, it was open. My husband was not too impressed at first and said he did not see much difference but it really looked white after Polly's Problem DEAR problem concerns the aluml- I num ribbing on my tabletop. When playing cards on i this table our arms get silvery black from this aluminum.

I would like to know how to prevent this. L. DEAR Pet Peeve is with the manufacturers of pantyhose (especially the quality ones) who do not put a tab of some kind on the back of the hose so that the wearer knows the front from the back. This problem is greatest with the sheer tummy-to-toe hose. -M.

M. V. DEAR have a great way of making temporary underarm dress shields. I cut some disposable diapers into half a moon shape. (The dress could be turned inside out and the lower half of the armhole traced) Cut two such sections and sew together, zigzagging the outer edge.

Pin into the dress at both peaks or points of the shields, making sure the plastic side is next to the Annual YMCA Meeting Set The annual meeting of the Hanover Area YMCA will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Parkville fire hall, 955 Baltimore St. A review of the past year and presentation of the newly appointed director, David Cotten, will highlight the evening.
