"I have known most of the kids on my team since they were eight years old," said Shaw, who is beginning his 15th year as a manager and coach in amateur baseball. "Sixteen of the 22 guys on my team are from Hackensack, so I have coached practically all of them at some different level. As you can see, I have no trouble telling the brothers apart." Shaw has known two of the brothers for all of their lives.

They are his sons, Howie who is Hackensack's leftfielder and Mickey, the club's rightfielder. The other brother acts are Lou D'Arminio, the designated hitter and Tom D'Arminio, the second baseman and the Romans, Joe, a shortstop and Gene, an infielder. Last, but not least, are the Cafones, Pete and Paul, who are twins. Pete is a third baseman and pitcher, while Paul can play in the infield or outfield. "They really don't look that much alike even though they are twins," said Shaw with a smile.

"Paul is a little smaller, so it is not hard to tell the difference." Shaw's team made a successful entry into the Met League last Sunday with a 2-1 come-from-behind triumph over Moonachie. Two of the brothers played key parts in the victory. Mickey Shaw, a star at Fairleigh Dickinson University this spring, doubled in the middle of a two-run rally in the seventh inning and later scored the winning run on a steal of home. Lou D'Arminio singled home Hackensack's first run of the game. "That was a great way for us to open up," said Shaw, whose team will visit Emerson-Westwood Sunday, at 7:30 at Westvale Park.

"I honestly believe if we can get some pitching, we will be heard from this year. "We can field and hit with any of the clubs in the league," he added. "Our main concern right now is that we only have two starting pitchers, Larry Gordon, who worked against Moonachie and Pete Cafone." Twelve members of Shaw's Met League team played for him last year on Hackensack's club in the Stan Musial League. "I invited all the kids on the Musial team to come play with us this year," said Shaw who was the manager of Hackensack's 1971 Connie Mack squad which qualified for the National World Series in' New Mexico. "But a few of them didn't feel they could make the jump up to the Met League.

"Joining the Met League has been the culmination of a long dream for me," he explained. "I have been fighting for a long time to bring a semi pro team to- Hackensack so the kids from the town wouldn't have to go anyplace else to play. "We have the youngest team in the Met League because I don't go to the other towns to recruit players. The oldest member of our team is 24 years old and the youngest is only 19. But that's fine with me, because that's the way I wanted it from the beginning.

The most Important thing to me is that the local kids are getting a chance to play." Shaw hopes Hackensack can play .500 ball this summer. "If we can accomplish that, I would be extremely Jiappy," the coach concluded. 'My real objective is to be competitive. I wouldn't really be too upset if we lost our next 39 games, 1-0. I just don't want to start losing 18-4 and 15-2.

"If we do okay I think we can start drawing people our home games at Foschini Park. "A successful semi pro team can really mean a lot to a town."
