A Mam Geueaded. Two men at Hickory Creek lately were at work in a field when a dispute arose between them. One of them, Mr. Bowes, in his anger struck the other, Mr. McDonald, with a stake which so enraged him that he struck the assailanfwith a cradle acythe, and, hitting him upon the neck, instantly severed his need from hia body which fell a considerable distance from Mr.

McDonald immediately escaped, and haa not since been heard from. An Indictment was found against him at the late term of the Will Circuit Court for manslaughter. Chicago Democrat. A man was killed at the Hazleton mines last week under the most painful circumstances. lie was a German, had been in the country but a few days, and had just coni- 1 menced work as a miner.

At noon, before the hour of commencing-work, a number of men were standing on the track of the slope inside the mine, when the rope to which a car of coal was suspended at the lop, broke, and the car in its downward course, was sent by the direction of the switch, from the main track to the one on which the man had fallen in hia attempt to escape, and his head was cut off and brains dashed out immediately. and thirty-eight, the register and receiver of the aforesaid land district shall attend st least once in two months if necessary at Shreeve-port in said district, for the purposu of receiving proof of and acting on such claiata for pre-emption rights, as may be presented to them under said act, and remain at said place as long as may be necessary not exceeding two weeks at a time, and said register and receiver shall give public notice for at least two weeks of the time they wtl! attend at said place. That every section of land in the tract aforesaid, which shall not be occupied by an actual set tier, positively engaged in tho propagation or cultivation of useful tropical plants within eight years from the location of said tract, or when the adjacent territory shall be surveyed snd offered for sale, shall be forfeited lo th-United States.
