production of gold in California for 1918 probably will be 20 percent under that of 1917, said Fletcher Hamilton, state mineralogist. While the price of gold has remained fixed at $20.67 an ounce, the various factors of the cost of its production have advanced from 25 to 300 percent since the European war began, according to Hamilton.
