Some idea of impoitttit which the Grand Canal ut N. York, will have upon the run dition of a laige portion of the Western States, may he derived from the following extract from the N'ew-ofk Statesman of the 15th ult. Erie Canal. VVc learn bv a conversation with au intelligent gentleman from the Western part of thii State, that the Grand Canal in that quarter has operated in a way which no one to our know ledge ever anticipated. It lias had the fleet to increase to ti very great extent the title of emigration from New-Yotk to Ohio, Michigan, and the other north-western states, as well as to Upper Canada.

From some towns bordering on the Canal, and which might therefore be expected to reap the most signal advantages from that great work, we. understand that not less than one hundred inhabitants have emigrated within the last year, in consequence of which there lias been ati actual depreciation of real estate, it, stead of a rise, as might hate been anticipated. T'his fact admits of a cry easy explanation. The canal opens a ready market for produce to the immense and fertile regions bordering on the lakes, W. and N.

W. of N. York. It has had a tendency ta equalize the price of articles in all those states and tertitm its. The transportation of wheat and other agric ultural products from Ohio or Michigan is hut a trifle more, than from the western connut of tins state, while the present price cf land, equal in quality, is at least 50 per cent.

less. Adventurers aru therefore selling their farms. in N. York, and making purchases in new countries, where lands aro cheap. These causes will continue to operate for time, and the tide of population will set west, until the influx shall have equalized the price of real estate in all those regions.

As emigrants will pour' iu from other parts of the United htates, it will probably not require many years to fill up those countries, when emigrations from New-York will cease. We are told that the increase ot population in Michigan territory, and in the northern counties of is altogether unprecedented. Great as are the benefits which the wholo state will derive fiom it by tolls and by finding a market for its merchandise in the west, and the interior counties a more ready sale of its agricultural and manufacturing products, it is undoubtedly' true, that for a time other states will reap greater advan tages from the canal, than even our Vitizens, witli ie exception. of those of the city of To the latter, the opening of tlve canal will bring aq almost unbounded accession of trade and it is a curious fact, which furnishes a striking illustration of the blindness of prejudice, that the metropolis, which was for many years the most violent ir.
