Women To Hear Consumer Expert At Short Course RALEIGH Charles R. Cavagnaro, Director for Field Operations for the President's Committee on Consumer In- Uerests (PCCI) will address a luncheon meeting during University Days for Women, June 2-5, in Raleigh. University Days, sponsored by the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service, will 'be a short course that may help women become more satisfied shoppers. In his post, Cavagnaro as- sists in the development and conduct of programs that fos- ter state and local consumer groups and that further con: sumer information and educa- tion. He joined the staff of PCCI in 1967 as Associate Director for Field Operations.

Cavagnaro has had extensive experience in the conduct of education and information programs in both government and industry. He entered federal service in January 1961 to develop the U.S. Department of Labor's joint educational program with labor, industry and agriculture to promote safe working conditions and techniques for young people employed in agriculture. Here are some of the ways it's done and advice on how not to do it.

(1) How many times have you heard people say, "It's cloudy so I can't get a This fallacious belief has caused more sunburns than the blazing sun on the hotest summer day. Ultra violet rays filter right through clouds and the sand and water reflect them to add to the burning potential. Sunburn is not only painful and damaging to the skin, but even a minor burn can postpone getting a good tan. The inevitable peeling leaves uneven blotches and the smoothest tan on the beach scene won't be yours for awhile at least So be forewarned. If you have already done the damage, all you can do is try to minimize the problem and speed its solution with applications of a healing cream.

(2) In their overeagerness to get a beautiful dark tan, some people let their first day at the beach or pool extend from early morning till late afternoon. Even people with the kind of skin that can stand a great deal of sun should get a base tan gradually (and always avoid full exposure to the noon time sun). Begin your browning in small daily doses, using an equal-amount mixture of a sun screen lotion and baby oil to soften the skin as it is tanning. After you acquire a base tan, you can deepen it to a dark surfer tan by using baby oil, which contains no sun screen and will attract all the sun's rays. (3) Some people think once you are out of the sun, you can forget about your skin.

Nothing could be further from the truth. To avoid dryness and flaking and keep your tan soft requires after sunning care. Applications of pure baby oil after sunning will keep your skin lubricated, help prevent moisture loss, discourage peeling and flaking, and prevent that dry itchy feeling that often follows sunning. Add a few capfuls of baby oil to your bath water too to keep your tan skin baby soft all summer long. msw Miss Broxfon Honored At Bridal Shower Miss Linda Braxton, June 1 bride-elect of Billy Wightman was honored with a bridal shower Saturday evening at the home of Miss Pam Bason, who will be a bridesmaid in the wedding.

Co-hostesses with Miss Bason were Mrs. David Burwell and Mrs. i Baker. The honoree was presented a white gardenia corsage, and her gift from the Iwstesses was a coffee maker. The party table was covered with a white artwork tablecloth and the centerpiece was an arrangement of yellow and white daisies and snapdragons flanked by white tapers.

Ivy encircled the punch bowl where Mrs. Clyde Braxton, mother of the bride-elect, presided. Cake squares, cheese straws, mints and nuts completed the party menu. Mrs. Wightman, mother of the prospective bridegroom, was a special guest.

TREASURES Items stored in packhouses, storehouses and attics may be "treasures" in disguise observes Betty Jean Barr, home economics Extension agent, Wayne County. For example, one homemaker, Mrs. C.F. Grady, Mt Olive, Rt. 3, found a pair of brass frames that had been packed away for ages.

What had been considered a useless item, became a useful accessory after cleaning. Another woman, Mrs. Janie B. Cousin, Mt. Olive, Rt.
