PRICK Ottte Explanation From Explorer Himself Appears on Second Page Today FULL DETAILS GIVEN News Shares With Metropolitan Papers in Presenting 1st Statement Interest unabated in the controversy between Dr. Cook and Commander Peary regarding discovery of the north poie, and state- ments from either of the explorers never fails to attract attention all over tfic world. Having this in mind, the "News" has published all available matter concerning the two great men, and today the attention of "News" readers is invited to another page, where a full explanation of Dr. Peary's altitude is to be found. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Cassel, at Manada Hill, this county, was the scene of a big surprise party on Saturday evening, in honor of their daughter. Miss Lucy Cassel. A large number of young folks wore present, and the evening was spent in one round of merriment and pleasure, which will not soon be forgotten by those present.

By Members of Ithaca Conservatory of Music Tuesday Evening. A concert, of more than ordinary interest wili be given in Salem U. B. chapel, corner of Ninth and Church; Streets, Tuesday evening, October 19. The concert will be rendered by members of the Ithaca Conservatory, of Music, Ithaca, New York, and promises to be an event of high calss, artistic entertainment.

The personnel of the company follows: Miss Evangeline G. Henry, reader; Miss Luvia M. Carter, soprano; Miss Marie Eb.ni, violinist; Miss Eleanor Mentch, pianist. Salem's BroLherhood of Andrew and Philip, under whose auspices the concert will be given, is composed of nearly all of the men of the church; and they are working hard to make the concert a great success by having the chapel tilled to capacity next Tuesday night. Brother Not Aware Thut Sister Was Gash of Several Inches.

Edna, the Id old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gassert, of 102 East Guilford street, narrowly escaped serious injury in an accident which befell her on Monday afternoon. Her brother, Raymond, tossed a board from the roof of the Gassert without knowing of his sisters' presence immediately below. The board tsruck the girl a glancing blow on the forehead, opening a gash of several inches, which required a number of stitches to close.

CONSTABLE KUCIT Constable William Klick, of the First ward, is confined to his home on South Sixth street, with illness. Mr. Klick has been a sufferer for several days now. Meanwhile Constable Ringler, of the Second ward, is looking after his official duties. Deputy Register Kreider has issued letters administration on the estate of the late Samuel Hower, of this city, to Annie on the estate of the late Mrs.

Conductor, Chorus and Pianist Share in Success of Evening Myerstown Reformed church was filled on Tuesday evening with music loving people for the second annual concert given by the Myerstown musical union and the affair proved an unqualified success.

John Hunsicker of this city, was the conductor in charge and much of the success of tlw undertaking was due to his able leadership, while Howard Shive at the piano contributed not a little to tBt undertaking.
