WDAU-TV started operations in June 1953 as Scrantons first television station, with offices in a building then owned by the Prudential Insurance Co. A CBS network affiliate from the start, it saw the same building acquired by International Correspondence Schools before the Jesuit fathers bought it in 1963 and transferred the private high school to the building from which is expected to begin in the spring of 1982, will not allow for a significant enrollment increase. Were crowded here, Father Rinfret said. We need more space, for things like computer math, counseling offices and libraries." He said the enrollment of 700 probably would not be increased by more than 30 or 40 students by the time the expansion is completed. He said he hopes a portion of the WDAU space will be converted to academic pur- Soses by the beginning of le 1982-83 term.

The building at 1000 Wyoming Ave. was home for WGBI- AM Radio long before Scranton Broadcasters, launched its television outlet. The late Frank Megargee, whose descendants retain controlling interest in the television and radio outlets, began the radio station in 1925. A few years after that, the station was moved to its present location. Management of WDAU-TV and WGBI-AM and FM could not be reached for comment at presstime.

Father Rinfret said the lease between Prep and the station management calls for a one year notice to be given to the station if Prep plans not to renew it. After 28 years in the basement of the big stone building at 1000 Wyoming WDAU-TV and its two radio stations will have to find a new home. The Rev. T. Donald Rin-fret, president and headmaster of Scranton Preparatory School, owner of the structure, confirmed today that station management has been given one year's notice to leave.

Father Rinfret said Prep needs the basement space used by the television and radio stations to expand its curriculum and to upgrade facilities. However, he said the building renovation, tf 1 A I Vfc. -fc 480 eighth-grade students had taken the Prep admission qualification test on-Feb. 14. He said this is a high.

He said the school administration, after the planned renovation, hopes to stablize incoming freshmen, enrollment at about 190 students.
