The Erskine outfit, in turning back the Christians, moved its season mark to seven wins in nine starts, one of the top records among the small college teams in the two Carolines. The Elon outfit, which dropped its third consecutive game within six days, now has a 2-4 record at the conclusion of pre-Christmas action. Jesse Branson scored and rebounded well as Elon jumped to the front and held the lead throughout the first half. The Christians were ahead by seven at 35 to 28 at the half-time break, but they could not stop a determined last-half assault by the Flying Fleet.

Bobby Edwards, deadshot forward for Erskine, topped the Fleet's victory attack, scoring 14 of his night's total of 18 points in the final half. Joining with him in pacing the winners was Don Whitehead, who hit the hoop for 16 counters and Harvey Mize with 14 points. Branson hit 10 field goals and 5 free throws for 25 points to lead the Elon scoring and to grab individual scoring honors for both teams for the night. Only other Elon player in double figures was Richard Such, who had four field buckets and three charity tosses for 11 points.
