Krause Discloses Schedule Packed for Next 4 Years By ED SAINSBURY CHICAGO. Nov. 7 (UP) Notre Dames football contrary to a lot of opinions otherwise, is packed full for the next four years, Athletic Director Ed Moose Krause told a Quarterback. Luncheon today.

"We are solidly filled through the 1953 season, Krause said, and our problem is to find room for fine teami that want to play us. For 1950, 1951 and 1952, our schedule will be similar to the one we had this year. Krauses statement was in answer to a question about filling the schedule with teams which dont want to play you. There have been repeated rumors that Big 10 clubs did not wish to play the Irish and Tulane announced after its defeat by Notra Dame this year, despite reports that it would renew the Notra Dame contract, that relations would end after the 1950 game. A Washington University official also said there would be ho further games with the Irish.

Krause reiterated the Notre Dame policy against post-season 'games. We are not interested in bowl games after the regular season, he said. As Coach (Frank) Leahy says, after meeting 10 tough opponents during the season, we probably wouldnt be able to gather our forces for a bowl game. Krause said that Notre Dame already has signed some teams to games In 1954 and 1955. Pittsburgh this year signed a four-year agreement to begin next Fall while Michigan State announced that it has agreed to play the Irish annually through 1953.

LIKE FATHER, ETC. Could be the case of Carl Thorpe, right, the 22-year-old son of the all-time football great, Jim Thorpe. Young Thorpe, a halfback, showed his famous pops speed in an 18-yard touchdown run for the Fort Monmouth team Saturday. He is shaking the hand of Leonard Cayer, who wore 13 for the opposition, the Fort Devens Hornets. Monmouth swamped the Devens eleven, 53-0.

that he was through, and hed like to go out a winner. Which may explain why his team put on a great fourth period rally to come from behind and score 20 points. Actually, Whelchel hadnt made a bad record here. His team has beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers twice, and has beaten and tied the New York Bulldogs. The Redskins have lost to the New York Giants, the Chicago Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles.

But Redskin President George Preston Marshall has been insisting all along that he has the finest material in all his years as a pro owner. And if he thought the material was as good as that, its obvious he wouldnt settle for a .500 record. for five years. Whelchel himself had left and couldnt be reached for comment. coaches ever made a more dramatic exit than' Whelchel, one time naval admiral who was signed with a great to-do last Spring as the answer to the Redskins football problems.

Having met considerable criticism as the team failed to live up to preseason expectations, Welchel was boosted to the Redskins shoulders yesterday after a fancy last quarter rally beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-14. What the fans dont know was the Redskins were carrying Whelchel off the field and right out of the league. He had told them at halftime its first New York appearance since 1948 Saturday when it plays North Carolina at the Yankee Stadium. Its a big drop in Michigan with 605 points. The Wolverines subdued Purdue, 20-12, to move a step closer to the Big 10 title. Indiana is next on the schedule. Cornell, a 33-7 winner over Syracuse in a blinding snowstorm, drew one first place ballot and an even 500 points. Former Adm. John E. Billlck Whelchel, released today as coach of the Washington Red' skins, said tonight he had no plans other than to settle down at his home here. Whelchel arrived at his cottage about 7 p. m.

after driving from Washington. Asked about his future plans, Whelohel said: I have a little home at Virginia Beach. I plan to live here from now on. Questioned about the Redskins announcement that his contract had been canceled by mutual consent, Whelchel said: That is the whole story. There is nothing to Whelchel declined to make any further statements.

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 7 (UP). George Preston Marshall, Washington Redskins owner, declined today to add anything to the announcement in Washington that the contract of Coach John E. Whelchel was terminated by mutual agreement. Marshall, attending a National Football League draft meeting, admitted that it was a peculiar situation but refused to comment further on the sudden end of Whelchels coaching term.

By ARTHUR EDSON WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 Coach John Billick Whelchel of the Washington Redskins, who was carried off the gridiron in triumph yesterday, was out of a job today his five-year contract canceled by mutual agreement after he had been at the helm for only. seven games. In announcing the change, the Redskin front office came up with two-sentence statement. The first sentence said that Whelchel was out; the second said that Herman Ball, line coach and chief scout of the professional outfit, had been promoted to the head job for the rest of the year.

There was no disclosure what financial settlement, if any, had been made on Whelchels contract, reportedly around $20,000 a year Lions Select ND Star Hart In NFL Draft PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 7 (U.R The Detroit Lions won the bonus draft choice at the National Football League meeting today, and promptly picked Leon Hart, star Notre Dame end, as their selection. The choice of the cocaptain of the undefeated fighting Irish by Coach Bo McMillian of the Lions was an open secret following the closed session. After the meeting, NFL Commissioner Bert Bell said that announcement of all draft choices would be made by the clubs themselves. All of the teams did not announce their draft choices because of the possibility of trades between now and next Summer.

The bonus draft choice, picked by the lucky team from a hat, was among only seven clubs, since the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles were ineligible as previous winners of the top choice. After the bonus selection was made, each team picked three players each for the 1950 season. Representatives of the 10 clubs, meeting at the Racquet Club, also laid plans for playoff games in the event ties exist in the two divisions at the end of the season. Jbe chib representatives de-cided that if a tie results between the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams in the Western Division, the playoff game will be played in Los Angeles. If the Chicago Cardinals and the Rams are deadlocked at seasons end, the deciding game will be played at Chicago.

In the Eastern Division, the playoff game will be in New York if the Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles are tied at the end of the regular season, and if the Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers are deadlocked the game will be played in Philadelphia. The championship game will be played Dec. 18 in the city winning the Western Division title if no divisional ties exist when the season ends Dec. 11. 7 (F) Major league baseball doday was given a detailed explanation by Baseball Commissioner A. B. Chandler of recently amended rules covering the radio broadcasting and televising of games outside the home territories of the club involved. With respect to radio broadcasts, the new rule is simple. Chandler said in a bulletin to all major league clubs and to the president of the National Association (minor leagues).

A major league club may authorize the broadcast of its games anywhere, including areas outside its home territory and within the home territory of another major or minor league club or clubs without having to notify such other club, except while such other major or minor league club is playing a home game, the bulletin said. During the period when a local club is playing a' home game, however, major league clubs may not broadcast their games from stations outside their own home territories and within the home territory of the local club unless the local club has consented to the broadcast of this or some other major league game at that time. The bulletin added that if the broadcasting station is located outside the home territories of the major league clubs playing the game to be broadcast and within the home territories of two or more other clubs, the consent of each such other club which is playing a home game must be obtained. With regard to telecasting, major league clubs may not telecast their games irom stations located outside their own home territory and within the territory of a local club, unless the local club, playing a home game or telecasting any away-from-home game, gives its consent. 7 (n The Old Professor was patched like an old Inner tube as he faced his Monday morning class of football coaches. Old Professor Good morning, gentlemen. Please excuse my appearance. I got this way trying on a new overcoat. The man who owned it showed up.

I dont feel too badly, though. Eddie Anderson, Iowa That's what I told my boys, Professor. Minnesota was good Saturday and we had one of those catastrophes. I just told my players to forget one. like that one, and not to feel too badly about it.

Bemie Bierman, Minnesota My boys came through when others didnt think they could play. They had a good day. Old Professor Which is probably the understatement of the season, Mr. Bierman. Mr.

Sauer, thats a pretty tie youre wearing. George Sauer, Navy Isnt it, though? We didnt win but we didnt lose, either. Tulane-is a fine ball club with a lot of talent. Navy played one of its better games, Just about the type of ball I had hoped they would, play all season. Henry Fmka, Tulane Both teams showed spirit and drive right down to the final horn.

I am very proud of my boys, and particularly Eddie Price, who played one of the greatest games of his eareer. Bob Zastrows passing for Navy was one of the outstanding features. Rex Enright, South Carolina Speaking of being glad, Professor, I have never been so glad to hear anything in my life as I was when that final whistle blew. Its wonderful to win one for a change after some rough Saturdays. I was impressed by Marquettes flashy sophomore backfleld.

It will cause trouble in the future. Trank Murray, Marquette When you fumble five times and lose the ball each time in a close game like that one, the inevitable will happen. We lost to a bunch of opportunists, a fighting, spirited gang. Old Professor Well spoken, Mr. Murray.

Nothing like good spirits hie er, I mean spirit, to get results. What are you doing with those blocks, Mr. Cravath? Jeff Cravath, Southern California I was Just showing Mr. Swchartz how the blocking on those 76 and 62-yard scoring plays of his was what weve been doing all season. They stole our blocking.

Seriously, the Inability of fullback Bill Martin to play on the offense due to a hand injury hurt me. Stan word showed it wanted this game moren we did Marchie Schwartz, Stanford Our blocking was the best weve done this year. It was a team victory. We have no honor role, unless it is the whole outfit. Old Professor Mr.

Faurot, did you hear from Colorado? Don Faurot, Missouri Yes sir, we got a line, and what a line they put up against us. It played a great game, and we were fortunate to win. We werent overconfident or anything like that. We played as good a game as we can play. That Colorado goal was a tough one to cross.

Dallas Ward, Colorado Considering the ah ape were were in, with our three top halfbacks out, would say we played the best ball of which we are capable. I dont think there are many teams in the country that Could stop Missouri on the goal line the way our boys did. The Tigers completed more passes than I expected. Old Professor Woodruff, eomplete this sentence: To Err It Bob Woodruff, Baylor To err la not to win. We made too many mistakes to win, thats alL However, our kids played a hard game.

The Texas line did a very good job of rushing our passer, the best job that has been done against us. I was proud of our toys all the way. Blair Cherry, Texas That was 'a great game. The greatest player bn the field was our Rudy Bauman, a substitute end. Baylor looked great early in the game and was fooling us with its shifting defense, but after that our boys caught on.

Our team is tired Id like to pay tribute to their courage and fighting spirit in winning the game. Old Professor A nice tribute, Mr. Cherry. Any comment, Mr. Engle? Rip Engle, Brown Id just like say, Professor, our boys were up for the Yale game, but we honestly didnt expect to win.

I still cant believe we had it that that easy. We played our hardest game of the season. Old Professor Im sorry Mr. Hickman isnt present Understand he was scouting the Prince-ton-Harvard game, so didnt see his team get done up Brown Heh, Heh. Thats a joke, gents.

Anyway, our time is up. Take care of yourselves, and Ill see you next week. Good day, gentlemen. 1 OUTSTANDING on coast LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 (UP).

Notre Dame so completely dominates the top 10 college football ratings that even losing to the Irish moves a club up the ladder. Michigan State, a shadowy 10th last week, hopped to eighth in the sixth weekly Associated Press rundown in which 163 sports writers and sportscasters participated. There were no shakeups in the ratings with Notre Dame still way out front on 137 of the 161 first place votes. That amounts to roughly 84 per cent of the ballots, about the same as it has been running for Irish took over th lead from Michigan on the second week of the poll and opened up a wide gap in the third week. Back of Notre Dame, its Army, Oklahoma, California and Michigan in that order, just the same as last week.

Cornell moved up a step to sixth and. Rice advanced from eighth to seventh. Minnesota and Virginia are the only newcomers, displacing beaten Baylor, which lost its first game to Texas, 20-0, and Southern Methodist, held to a surprising 27-27 tie by Texas Aggies. The Minnesota Gophers 55-7 romp over supposedly strong Iowa gave them a big lift and Virginias convincing 26-14 decision over Penn lifted the unbeaten Cavaliers into the top 10. Notre Dame apparently lost little prestige in yielding three touchdowns to Michigan State, two in the final minutes.

Instead the voters figured, the Spartans tougher than expected because they held the Irish to a 34-21 victory. The battle of West Point in which Army ruined Fordhami perfect record, 35-0, in a savage roughhouse drew 13 first place votes for the Cadets. Nine experts tabbed Oklahoma as the No. 1 team but they wound up third despite a 39-0 rout of Kansas State. The Sooner face their big test Saturday in strong Missouri.

Once again California held fourth place with three firsts after drubbing Washington State, 33-14. They play Oregon Saturday. On a point score basis, figuring 10 for first, nine for second and so on. Noire Dame has 1,378, No Chance By STAN OPOTOWSKY NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (U.R).

The coach who just played Notre Dame and the coach who plays the' Irish next pretty much agreed tonight on one view whats the use? Biggie Munn of the vanquished Michigan State Spartans said, Notre Dame has possibly the greatest college team in history. Theyre just too deep in strength that Bob Williams (who passed to two touchdowns and ran to one) is certainly as good as his predecessors. We were good while we had strength but we lost our wind. When we were stopped on their one yard line in the first period, we lost our chance to take the lead and it may have had a disheartening influence. But Notre Dame was too deep in strength.

So much for postmortems. What about the Irish game next week with North Carolina In New York? Coach Carl Snavely of North Carolina said, We have practically no change at all. Charley Justices ankle is swollen and hes iretty lame. I dont know whether pi it will dear up this week or not. Justice has been under the handicap of lack of practice most of this season, first with a virus throat infection and then with a sidb injury, now this.

The rest of the team has been shot for several weeks and still is. About half the regulars were out the last three weeks. I hope the team will be in better shape this week, but dont know. At Ohio State, Coach Wes ler eyed the Rose Bowl timorously, to be sure and warned, We ran into a hornets nest at Pittsburg and those Pitt boys were really fired up. We beat em, and were lucky to come out alive.

Dick OHanlon saved the day In the third period when he caused the Pitt safety man to fumble and we recovered. After that we started to roll. Fumbles also bothered Coach Earl Blaik of Army after his undefeated, untied teaVn kicked off against Fordham, also with a perfect record before the 35-0 game. We had i trouble getting started, Blaik said, because Fordham made us fumble when we had a chance to score three times in the first half. (Political Adv.)
