Friends may call today, 7 to 9 p.m. Raymond W. Escandel February 12, 1998 Raymond Whitney Escandel, 77, of RR 1, Hop Bottom, died Feb. 12 at Bames-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility, Susquehanna, after a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Catherine Seed.

They had been married for 55 years. Born March 9, 1920 in Philadelphia, son of the late Cecil and Sarah Smith Escandel, he was a veteran of World War II serving as pilot and captain in the Air Transport Command of the Army Air Corps. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Ohio Casualty Insurance Scranton. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Harford, where he served as choir director for many years. He was a well-known tenor soloist in Scranton and the surrounding areas during the 1960s and 1970s, including performing at Madison Avenue Temple, now Temple Hesed, for 25 years.

He was a member of Harford Lodge 445 Free and Accepted Masons, Hop Bottom. Also surviving are a daughter, Roberta Krager, Endwell, N.Y.; a son, Thomas, Brooklyn; four grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Lee Haas, Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Constance Ondru-shak, Kennedyville, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an identical twin, William, who was killed during World War II. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in First Congregational United Church of Christ, Harford, by the Rev.
